Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hello everybody. We have had the most lovely day celebrating Frankie's Christening. The weather changed, it was dry and sunny but a bit chilly - a beautiful autumn day. The church dates back to the 1100s and was stunning. It was just a perfect day full of joy. Here's some pics
Other news - I've packed! 3 weeks on hand luggage. I may regret this 🤣View attachment 326135View attachment 326136View attachment 326139
Beautiful pics, Anj. Wishing Baby Frankie a life that is long and full of love and happiness.
Hope you and Mr F. have a lovely holiday.

Along with some of the "medical remedies of old " it is a wonder we still walk the planet . They were brick chimneys then just big enough for a young boy to climb down as he cleaned it ! Much of life is so much better now but we tend to dwell on the bad things ,which doesn't help at all.
I was reading about kids and chimney sweeps the other day. Apart from getting stuck, because chimneys were sometimes were not straight, some poor souls died because owners used to light the fire to make the children work faster.

I have a feeling this will bore some but I was once asked about the construction of a chimney by an inlaw building a place in Spain .
It is best if the chimney is not straight in the case of "stuff" dropping straight onto a lit fire and causing the coals to explode into the room but it is best if the top of it is is above the fire as it draws better .

Good morning all on this cloudy one here ,they reckon yesterday was our last one over 20° this year ,we will see . Off to the shops for vittles to last us until our we mosey into town on Thursday ,my how life has it's moments .
I have finally been happy with the sourdough it has tasted good but been a bit dense as in brick I tried boosting the rise with a traitorous yeast but decided although less brick like I wanted to make a pure and simple one ,it is extremeley boring -sorry compicated just to get it right as there are so many things to go wrong but the sense of achievement is worth it .
I hope all are well and had a good night and that @peteblue and @Terrarian let us hear how things are .Have a great day all COYB .

It seems my fondness for Moyes was false as I am now carping about team selection a point I made when he was last here .

Morning everyone, just back from a lovely week in Lesvos thanks to @jazzy ’s recommendation- it felt like going to Greece 20 years ago, very quiet and a nice mix of locals and tourists and temperature in the mid 20s. I certainly felt chilly last night.
That must have been so difficult to do @peteblue and i echo what everyone else has said.
It’s definitely soup weather isn’t it and I’ll be dusting my recipes down ready to batch cook a few for the freezer sometime this week.
It’s the same when walking to it from town direction. Please find exhibit A below

Why is “stadium” in a different font? It bugs me in the same way that those land rovers have an offset number plate

It does look like an error but must be intentional.

Sorry for double post - I posted too early and missed my time slot to edit 🤦‍♀️

Lovely photos of the christening @anjelikaferrett you all look lovely and the church is stunning. I’m excited for you and your island hop. You’ll be fine with the hand luggage- I took more for this last week than I do for a 3 week hop - only because I had a bigger luggage allowance, and didn’t wear half of it but had shoe choices. I’ve only been to Scarborough once in 1980 I think - during the mod revival (don’t ask).
Belated birthday wishes @fandjango - what a place to celebrate.
Glad to hear you had a good time in York @Gwladysover its a beautiful city.
I suppose I’d better get up and crack on with the washing, ironing and big food shopping. Have a great day everyone

Re “ Stadium”, I am likely wrong , but I’m sure the sign was initially “

Thank you ☺️. He did very well with his knees and I am very happy that he is pain free in his joint and able to get around now on hills and uneven ground- unthinkable before his op.
I’ve put a few pictures up below of Lesvos, hope you like them. The first one is of the view from the taverna which opened especially for us so we could watch the Derby, the second shows the spectacular sunsets in Anaxos where we stayed, and the other 3 are of Molyvos the nearest small harbour town which was just stunning.

Good morning all on this grey one here down to +6 this morning .I hope all are well and had a good night .
I had a bit of a thing yesterday ,I went to collect a load of broken pallets , on the way back noticed a van driving further and further back ,when I turned the next corner I checked in my mirror and about six pallets were dangling off the back only held on because the strap mechanism had jammed into one of the gaps . Flashing your headlights isn't a thing here as they are on all day so he dropped back to stay safe from flying pallets !
Today I will be mostly loading firewood and then chopping the pallets up but that will take me many days in between the rain that is forecast .
Have a great day all COYB
