2025/26 Merlin Röhl

Iwobi was blamed for the sins of a poor team because we paid a controversial amount for him. He also wasn’t the pacy player a lot thought he was so he was labeled slow and disinterested. He was and is clearly talented.
He never showed that talent often enough at Everton, my main gripe with Iwobi was him pulling out of 50/50 tackles and plenty of 60/40 ones in his favour— but he is playing better for Fulham.

If we're being totally honest there's a cohort of posters on here that have a tendency to be a bit OTT in their targeted hatred of certain players.

Currently Iroegbunam, previously Iwobi. Bit weird if you ask me.

Fwiw - not saying you can't have a negative opinion about a player, we all have players we're not fans of. Just seems like with certain players the language used is different. Just my two cents.
Well, my language was certainly different for Aiden McGeady.

And I'm an Irishman!

Showed much more of that form for Fulham than he did for Everton, but the Frankenstein monster of teams we had then really didn't help. Which is probably why I have far more optimistic feelings for this Everton team than previous Everton teams, it seems so much more organised and planned out under Moyes.
Would agree is more down to me just not being a fan of him, but got good money for him and played his part to keep us up. Just happy both us and him seem to be doing well

First thing that sprung to my mind when Iwobi was brought up, was those tackles you mentioned, just hanging a foot in rather then forcing it through..
He's found is place tho at fullham, doing well, looking happy so fair play to him. Some players workout, some don't, but we as a club didn't really help them with a diminishing identity and countless shocking managers and off field issues..

The future is already looking sweeter and we are regaining our identity..

I dont want to tempt fate, but I'm feeling good at the moment..

Some fans on here moan about the way Everton players are criticised by our own fans I think there are just as many who over hype our players and see a talent that isn’t there.

They're not the same things though, are they? A fan hyping a player is at worst described as over optimistic. A fan constantly looking to slate players is just being negative and arguably toxic. I certainly know which behaviour is more damaging.

He did nothing to impress me but I’d give him a lot more time before I have an opinion of him. Some fans on here moan about the way Everton players are criticised by our own fans I think there are just as many who over hype our players and see a talent that isn’t there.
We are easily the most fickle of fans. The players threads over the last few years proves it. World class one week, championship player the next.
Gueye was getting dogs abuse and was finished 18 months ago, now he’s worshipped. Fans wanting £100m + for Onana was a personal fave.

Rohl had a couple of good touches but the game passed him by, hardly surprising as he came on as sub with not much training.
The cup game will be the one for him, that’s where he will get a start and can push on from that.

He was one of our top earners (supposedly on £120k a week) and came up with 6 goals and 11 assists in 123 games. It's reasonable that we wanted more for that money.

He is talented but it was never really clear what his best position was and he gave the ball away a lot.

Well I think if the criticism is constructive and makes sense what’s wrong with that?

Fair enough but a lot of fans are consistent with their praise or criticism and if they make sense that’s okay with me.

Well, yeah, you have a point. Sometimes players should be criticised, it doesn't mean criticism can't go over the top though, and just batting away over the top criticism or excusing a clear agenda by effectively saying some fans are too positive or overly optimistic doesn't really wash with me I'm afraid.

This is not aimed at you per se, btw, just a general obversation.
