2025/26 Tim Iroegbunam

It is hard to understand because the whole idea of being elite is being able to consistently replicate what you’re great at, week in, week out. Using two matches 12 months apart seems a bit of a stretch to claim someone has those skills and it’s not just a bit of a fluke.
He is excellent at pressing himself and at times looks excellent when put under pressure when he was the ball (press resistant). The instinctive stuff he looks very good at at times. It’s when the games controlled and he needs to play positionally or be disciplined that he looks out of sorts.

Funny player really, could maybe go either way but I have a feeling the stuff he’s lacking you can teach, the stuff he has you can’t necessarily. His football IQ might never get there though.

He needs some confidence in himself.

Really disappointed he never took his opportunity but he is a young player who hasn't played many games.

He has the attributes and if he applies himself, it will come good for us and him.

One bad-ish game isn't the end of the World.

Let's stop trying to find negatives and scapegoats

He has potential, having said that, he gives away far too many free kicks, is often clumsy in his tackling and makes some very sloppy passes due to, what appear to be, lapses in concentration. I wouldn't rule him out of developing and into a decent player, for now though, the drop off in centre midfield when he has to replace Garner, is noticable.

Which is why I didn't say he was elite but that he did some elite things???

He's started 3 of the 4 games so far (obviously down to injuries) and I dont think hes grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

He had a great opportunity to leapfrog over Garner, but once everyone is fit i think he'll find himself behind Garner & Merlin now.

Chances to stake a claim for 1st team football are very few and far between.

Young player learning the game, does some good things some bad, as others have said seems to drift out of games which is a bit of a worry.
Might grow out of it hopefully
If he does worth keeping around for the squad.

I feel a bit sorry for him in a way. He had the Championship loan with QPR in 22-23 and since then has been used as a bit-part player by Villa for a season and then a squad player last season with us. If he went out on loan again straight after the QPR one, where he did well, I think we would be seeing a much better and more refined player. Ultimately he really needed another Championship loan but we would have needed another midfielder to compensate for that.
