I think the 'Villa fans boo ex-player shocker' was a little bit overdone by football media luvvies like Owen and Danny Murphy. If I recall correctly, the grumbles and mild boos started after VP after Jackie boy tried to pull one of his textbook dives down near the Holte End after a challenge by one of his good mates Matty Cash. It wasn't the dive that was the problem (lord knows Villa fans have cheered enough of them when they went in our favour) it was the fact that he nearly got his pal booked, but again all's fair in love and war.
What exacerbated the situation was clearly how visibly he was shocked to hear the boos - it clearly affected his game which inspired the crowd to give him more stick. If he'd just shrugged it off or laughed it off at the outset, it most likely wouldn't have continued, but as at most grounds in England, if fans can see they're affecting a player they'll ham it up all the more. I don't think any Villa fans genuinely wish Jack any ill will and most would be pleased to see him doing OK again.....just not against us.
