The point of moneyball was that players didn't look the part but their underlying numbers were good. Merlin Rohl is the absolute opposite of that premise.

Yet if his underlying numbers were that good we wouldn’t be signing him, plus he does have decent numbers in chance creation and off the ball movement

If we’re basing it on just numbers, Grealish’s numbers have stunk in recent years but the ‘data’ suggested he’s quality. Go with the glass half full approach

Which, weirdly, the one thing giving me hope about the signing. His numbers are a total mess but he's been played all over the pitch and probably not even in the positions we want to play him in.

Maybe our scouts are absolutely convinced that he'd explode in a deeper lying position and everyone else has overlooked him because there's no data evidence to support it.

Big gamble but I need something to make me feel positive about this signing haha

Theyve got to have seen something with their eyes they *really* like to have tried to sign him in 3 different windows under 2 different managers and 2 heads of recruitment/DoFs. His injury record and data don't paint a pretty picture. It's got me fascinated as to what the plan is.
