Empty seats when so many couldn't get tickets - how do we resolve this?

It's a really really tough one, in order to grow the club needs revenue to have any chance of winning/competing again

And one of the most valuable commodities is despite 30 lean years we have a huge fan base, we've typically not focused on increasing revenue from the fans until the new stadium

- increased cost of food and drink
- ticket price increases
- membership increases and tiered system
- harder to pass a ticket onto a friend/family member
- huge increase in premium hospitality fan seats which make a lot of money but not as accessible to the normal fan

I'm really torn, I desperately want us to win something and loved taking the kids last night and seeing how much they enjoyed it compared to facilities at goodison, also knowing thousands of extra fans are getting to go, but I don't want the fans to be too much of a commodity
Everton shouldn't of sold so many season tickets at GP and we would of had more fans who don't go as often who will buy merchandise, also refreshments inside ground. RS quite intelligently, knew that local Scouse fans, don't actually spend much, bar their match ticket, so focused on daytriopers, who spend huge amounts in club shop. We don't have legions of glory hunters to rely on, so we need local support. Most people support Everton, through family members. A lot of people including myself ended up supporting Everton due to being able to get tickets for match and build relationship with club. If somebody passes on ticket to somebody, who then spends let's say 50 quid on merchandise, buying a programme and refreshments, club have made money back off fan not having membership. I would rather we stayed as people's club and didn't win anything, than turn into soulless brand.

Re the seats in South West, I believe some of the SportsBreak tickets are located there. Sections 204 and 206 according to their info.

Added: I wonder if my ticket for Villa which suddenly appeared on the Saturday was one of a set that SportsBreak returned to the club...

I bought from them. It’s expensive but I cannot miss the first official home match at the stadium. And thank you for the gentleman who asked to take photo for me. You made my day, thank you. 204 was kind of full right?

I'm not sure that type of irregular matchgoer is likely to spend £50 as a general rule though. Proper daytrippers who are making a once in a lifetime/extremely rare visit to the ground are the ones you're talking about spending decent cash because it's an experience for them, but the type of person who just takes a ticket from a mate or family member who can't go is generally going to be someone who is a semi regular visitor themselves and so no more likely to spend any money than the ST holder themselves.

As the post you were replying to was saying, it's a genuinely difficult balance. We've all moaned for ages about the club not maximising income and all that but then when things happen to change that we don't like it either. That's not a criticism by the way, it's totally understandable, in much the same way as we all want the government/council to make improvements to facilities but don't want to have to pay for it through taxes.

When was the last time /have we ever had 48000 in for a league cup game bar finals?
Can't see an issue.
People want to go, they're told it's sold out. There's hundreds in fact a few thousand empty seats in blocks. I can understand why many fans on waiting lists etc are unhappy. Let's not forget these cup games are traditionally matches people go to when non STH or regular goer's. New stadium-people want to go it's not just any old League Cup game. I'm fuming and I didn't even go 😁

It really isn't very hard for them to put doors in the concourse to segregate away fans when necessary. Anyone who has away ends with different capacity's dependent on what the away team takes does it.

Under normal circumstances the doors are open.
100%

Something not right. Hope Colin Chong is on GOT

Mansfield sold 6,039 out of a 6,518 allocation meaning just under 500 empty. The segregation area looked fairly big and obviously there were small empty sections in our areas but how was there over 4,000 empty seats?

Don't see why Everton would lie but didn't feel like there were 4K empty.

Unfortunately I suspect it boils down to where the steel shutter divides are and which turnstiles are used to access the relevant blocks. In theory you could use blocks 235/237 better than they were but it would mean accessing them from the wrong turnstile at the west stand rather than east. I think it’s understandable though that they would be very cautious the first time they’ve done this for real. The bigger problem long term is block 223 as they were never warned they were at risk of being displaced and unfortunately I think they will end up displaced every time. They can’t use their normal turnstile to access level 2 and even if they accessed at the south end of east stand and walked all the way along the concourse I don’t think the steel shutters would let them get to the right vomitory. They also can’t walk through the stand as the whole of club view is in the way.
