Gordon was on a hiding to nothing here, we mismanaged him 100% in the 6 months prior or to him leaving, we sold Richarlison, DCL dissaprared and he had the shoulder the main attack goal scoring burden 6 months into him becoming a regular. What he really needed was to be taken in and out of a PL environment and nurtured with good management and senior pros. He didn’t get that here he got it at Newcastle and thrived.

There is a lot of uncomfortable truths to go around in our handling of Gordon.

There’s a bit of both I think. The club tried to make him the star man (which fed his ego as he even had a private reg of Starboy or something) and he wasn’t good/accomplished enough for that responsibility. We then mismanaged him as he drifted in and out of games. However he definitely also downed tools and he couldn’t wait to get out.

But when he went to Newcastle, he was taken in and out because he was always blowing out his backside after half an hour and couldn’t last the game rather than because it was careful management to nurture him.

Dibling on the other hand, is coming in when we have Grealish who thrives under the pressure. So all the focus is on him to perform. It’s an ideal scenario for us/dibling really.

Agree to differ mate on aspects mate, we won’t break new ground, I’ve derailed this thread, so we better get back to Tyler before Danny sells me to a Newcastle forum on the cheap before my peak. ;)

Give it a rest lad. He is 24. A local lad with us since he was a kid who's sale saved our financial bacon. For a while he gave match going fans a bit of excitement. No need to be bitter.
