It was very reminiscent of the victories we got last season. We don’t control games and give up possession in just about every game. Whether that is tactics and purposeful, I’ve no idea.

We haven’t been able to handle pressing tactics for 5-6 years. And it’s gotten a lot worse in the last 3. Lacking pace to break the press is a huge disadvantage. The Alcaraz to Beto outlet helped last Spring, but it’s still a concern.

NDiaye, KDH, Gana, and Grealish all made us look a little better in that regard on Sunday. Long may it continue.

Here's my issue, he's on 90k pw so we will have to at least match that, he looks on the slide physically. He plays DM yet is a rubbish defensive player - and if he arrived then that's "the DM sorted" when we will still have a huge weakness there.

Throw in his passing stats are bad yet he also ranks really poor in progressive passing - meaning he's REALLY bad at passing the ball in a team which is now loaded with players who id we get them it can run at defences.

He also would come in as a starter displacing likely Gueye or Garner (most likely Garner)

Also wanted to add, if it's true 30m was the offer for him, then that's mad. I thought this would be like a 15m target.

We should be looking for the next gueye for that money, as much as he is a machine, age will eventually catch up to him.

It’s what I would do. He’s really close to being a good player at this level. He just lacks some pace or strength to be more effective in the PL.

Weirdly, I think he’d be effective in a possession system, which doesn’t help us.

I could see him being effective in a league like France and us getting our money back. But he’d probably need a loan to prove himself at this point.

I don’t think so. Maybe in January if he doesn't get enough minutes in the first half of the season.

Hence why I said he'd be replaced with a loan.

I wouldn't let him leave without another body coming into the club.

We will soon hit a brick wall financially and struggle to build again - as Villa, Newcastle etc are finding- so we shouldn't spaff money on a player like Soucek. Should be smart investments.

I kind of get your point, but Newcastle, Villa and Forest have already made their progress in qualifying for European competitions. So whilst they may be a bit frustrated right now, they don’t regret maxing out their expenditure one bit, and Newcastle and Forest both achieved it by investing in an over 30 Chris Wood, who everyone on here would have whinged about had we signed him.

It all depends on the price of course, but the idea that Soucek couldn’t hold down a place at Everton and is on his way to the knacker’s yard isn’t accurate imo. I think he’d get both game time and goals at Everton, and would be a valued addition depending on the price.
