2025/26 Michael Keane

He been solid under Moyes to be fair to him.

The beauty of Moyes is he never gets a player to do things beyond their skillset,he gets them to play to their strengths.

If you give Keane the ball in areas he not comfortable in he'll ultimately get himself in trouble.

I think we've all lost count the amount of times he's give the ball away in the centre circle because we're insistent on playing out from the back.

But if you look at yesterday,he's receiving the ball in areas where he's not under pressure and allows him to spray the ball about.

One thing people can't question is that right foot of his.

Happy to have him for another year, primarily as a back up.

Happy he’s playing better than expected under a good manager (like he did Carlo).

Equally I’d be just as happy for him to leave at the end of the season, with his head held high.

He’s made plenty of mistakes but he’s also made important contributions too.

I think he will be looked back as a good long term servant during a turbulent time for the club.

Happy to see how he writes the closing chapter on his career here. Hopefully a solid league finish, with good performances when he’s called upon.

He played well yesterday. Hopefully, Moyes is sorting his confidence out? I don't think anyone, thinks he's not a good player? Just his head goes down after a mistake.
It’s easy to forget he actually has 12 England caps so he must of been highly regarded across the country at one point . I don’t know where it went wrong but as you suggest , he may be susceptible to lack of confidence . One of Moyes strengths is to help players with that .

He really ought to be still in his prime . Center Backs usually get better in their latter half of their career . I hope Tarks sorts himself out and Keane drops to the bench . Jared plays better with a leader beside him .

I didn’t want him signed on for another year but if he keeps this form up then I would consider that as rather shrewd .

Genuinely the wildest post I've seen on GOT in a very very long time 😆
Not really, the poster is right. Keane would be slaughtered here if he made the mistake that Tarkowski made.
He will fall out of the team when JB returns but remains a very capable squad player.

I don't know if it is an Evertonian thing or a GOT thing but it seems there always has to be a scapegoat.

I meant more the "He's a very, very good centre half, excellent on the ball, quick, tall, excellent reader of the game"

If you think that's correct and not complete hyperbole after one decent game then I don't know what to say

All on Tarks yesterday, farting about with it. I thought Keane had a very good, no nonsense game.
Don't deny Tarks has played poorly last two games. He needs Branners

But Tarkowski playing poorly doesn't mean Keane is playing well. As I said, thought he did well yesterday, but hardly prime Baresi, still caught out of position a few times and, as I said, we could and maybe should have conceded 2 or 3. Very different narrative to our back line if that's the case! Doubt many would be saying the contract extension was a wise move, Moyes gets the best out of him, on this basis he can regain his England form, and so on

Still, woulda coulda shoulda, it didn't happen, so maybe I need to cheer up

That's normal isn't it?

Players aren't suddenly bad after one or two mistakes. Equally, players aren't good after one or two solid performances.

It's all about the longer narrative. Keane has shown over a number of years that he cannot consistently keep game changing errors out of his game.

Tarkowski has shown that he can. Equally though, Tarkowski has shown that he is prone to making rash, red blooded decisions, and that he needs Branners to chill him out
