2025/26 David Moyes

Just noticed the emphasis on Southgate? Not been here long so was there really a clamour for Southgate? That can’t be serious?
It's very serious, well as serious as he ever is.

"The worst of em feed the rest."

You'll find him eventually. I'll provide you another example, his lordship was digging out Wiegman in the ladies euro's thread, it was then pointed out that she'd made 5 consecutive big tournament finals winning 3 with Holland 2017, and England 2022 and 2025. He slunk away after trying to alter his argument by systematically calling out half of the players she'd won it with.

Funny stuff.

Southgate.

As for Moyes, he's got a task on his hands, if he signs players happy to come to Everton, they and by extension he are not ambitious enough, so when he goes for higher profile payers he's being unrealistic because these are all European competition entitled supermen that'd never consider us.

Damned either way.

One thing I did like him saying today was that we definitely do have money to spend.

If the window shuts and we haven't spent any more then we know any PSR/low funds related PR bull the club might try spin is nonsense.

Yup it is classic Moyes protecting himself first though.

Again like with the being turned down by good players comments, it's an unprofessional thing to say. Does Moyes truly get the club or does he just understand how to play the supporters ..

He's also weirdly enough said something about the players who joined us....

It's like going over to a girl in a bar and telling her at 1am you've been trying to pull really attractive girls all night but failing so decided to try the decent ones bombed out with those so gave up and went to go talk to her instead.

I'll add to my point.

United this summer have made a point of not going for a player bid use until the player commited to them, see sesko, lad from wolves and one from Brentford.

Did they want Gyorkeres - ofc, did they go public or comment or bid - no, have they once said they missed out on these players - no. Why, because it would make united look less attractive and also driven up prices next time and on top it would undermine negotiations to persuade future targets.

Sesko may have been 2-4th option, but united could go into that saying you are the one we wanted hence no bids on any other striker etc.

United look to have actually sorted in part their recruitment out this season, we are still flapping gums to the press about bidding left right and centre like that matters.

What's unprofessional about saying players have turned us down because we're not in Europe?

Think a lot of you are just too sensitive tbh.

Most managers last less than two years in any job. That's the reality.
  • According to Transfermarkt, in the Premier League era (1992 onward):
    • Arsenal have the longest managerial stability: averaging one manager every 6.60 seasons.
    • Manchester United average a new permanent manager every 5.50 seasons.
    • Liverpool average every 3.67 seasons, Manchester City every 2.55 seasons.
    • At the other end, West Bromwich Albion average a new manager every season.
Funnily enough, Man Utd have become much less successful since they started chopping and changing managers with alarming regularity.

Constantly having to fire managers is a sign of weak executive management.

I dont think Moyes has done or said anything unprofessional. If things behind the scenes aren't good enough then why should he not speak out?

Moyes is trying to increase standards across the club and its well overdue. Average performance shouldn't be accepted any more, and everyone should be accountable for their performance. Managers will always be accountable based on results but everyone else at the club needs to be performing too.

Saying you've been turned down in itself is unprofessional mate, it ta our club but it's also a business trying to recruit people into it, what other manager would go in the private sector blabbing about being unable to recruit a certain level of employee so now lowering standards ...

Yes, but the overall average is less than two years. That's the reality.

I'd love us to have a manager for 10 years - but only one who wins trophies merits that longevity. The Moyes-Kenwright longevity can be looked on as an indictment of our unseriousness as a football club as anything else.

I thought his interview was great today, clear and obvious answers.

We werent good enough against Leeds even though it wasn’t a pen
The injured players are still injured
We tried to sign bigger players than our current status but they want europe
We will sign players and have the money to do so
Excited about the new stadium but no more pressure than we’ve had in relegation battles

The main thing was he arrived in incredibly high spirits, so much so I’m sure something positive is happening behind the scenes
