2025/26 David Moyes

I'm sure we are advocating ourselves, but anyone who thinks we should have any arrogance about our approach to it all would be living in a bubble IMO. We have very little to be arrogant about.

Well my point was;

Its Moyes though isnt it?

He downplayed expectations at every turn when he was here, an has always done so. Man Utd pissed the league, he rocked up and was talking about it would be a good point if they could get one away at Newcastle. Before a ball was kicked that season at Sunderland, who'd been in the Prem for 10 years on the spin, he said it would be a miracle if he kept them up.

After years of pragmatism, I wanted a bit of hope, confidence and dare I say arrogance this summer, and he is the total opposite of that.

We had a real opportunity this summer to send a lightning bolt through the team, and we're pissing it away.

It does us no favours to continually be talking ourselves down.

We've got a lot to be optimistic about - I think anyway.

But to me that's the same as hiring Moyes. Thelwell and Purdy weren't their guys, and didn't want to commit to them longer than the club already had.

At any rate, there's enough in this squad to get results, and not with Dyche levels of tactics that we saw on Monday. There should be no more finger-pointing from Moyes.
There's nowhere near enough in this squad to get results mate.

Even signing a player or 2 in the next week isn't enough.
We are another injury or 2 or suspensions to be in big trouble

Lost their nerve by retaining him, rather that appointing. They had nobody else who they could appoint after Dyche downed tools. On the comparison, I see what you mean, but there's a big difference. I think the recruitment position meant we needed some continuity there.

To move away from DOF model entirely, and to hire so many just felt bad timing to me. A managers position is very different to that.

Just out of interest I wonder if Roma have a DOF? I ask as I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was Moyes who forced the changes we've seen. We had players lined up to come in January, which he turned away.

But it's not one summer of Thelwell, it's probably 3 years' commitment. Perhaps they fire him and pay him off after a year, but I think that sets a poor precedent.

Roma have a sporting director and Rainieri as an advisor, which is probably how they see Moyes eventually (and probably how Moyes sees himself).

But he has a job to do now and won't make it that far if he keeps pointing fingers and throwing out broken starting 11s.

He got results with most of these same players in the second half of last year. There are still holes to fill, but there is plenty of talent here if they were put in a position to succeed. I refuse to believe what we saw on Monday was down to missing Jack Harrrison and Doucoure. That's just unbelievable.

Mykolenko and Jarrad more like ?

Optimism - yes (although it feels like everyone, Moyes included, was expecting everything to happen quicker than it realistically would do).

There's plenty to be optimistic about, but optimism probably needs to be tempered with a dose of realism about how long the process might take.

Arrogance though - I can't get onside with that. If we take our blue-tinted specs off, I think we'd probably see that any arrogance about our current status would be met with some hilarity from fans of other clubs. You can't walk before you can run.

It's unfortunate that this summer has required so much recruitment because it's led to everyone thinking that we'd be bringing in 10 players of the standard of Grealish etc, when Grealish was only ever likely to be the marquee signing

To be fair, he wasn't the only one having a whinge today. (Or even the worst.)

Marco Silva: "We had a plan and the plan until now didn’t go through, it’s as simple as that. We have to look at ourselves, it’s our fault, it’s not the fault of the market.
I cannot tell you that someone is going to arrive tomorrow or in two day’s time because I’m not sure and, to be honest, I have big doubts that it’s going to happen.
That plan failed until now, it is clear.
We need solutions in the back line, we are short in certain positions there, we need another midfielder to come in as well.
Some of our main targets are no more, we have to go in a different direction right now.
"
Oliver Glasner: "I think it’s better I don’t talk too much about it. Because, you know, I start to get … And it’s better than not always saying what you are feeling and what you’re thinking. We have to act. We need this. And this is Crystal Palace’s future. The profile is defined for months. It is not surprising for everyone that Ebs left. We missed the chance to replace him early enough. That’s completely our fault and nobody else’s."

Dithering Marco at it again. Am i doing this right?

Believe what you want mate.

It needed a huge overhaul and addressing that Right hand side as a priority.
Its nowhere near that.

God forbid injuries to any more key players .
But we signed 2 keepers eh.

Come on.

We all know Moyes by now.

It's what he does.
It's the literal reason I didn't want him back. He'll talk us down all season, then want a pat on the back and a medal when we finish 15th. Plucky little Everton. I hate it.
The Martinez experiment failed, ultimately, but at least he talked us up and gave us some hope. Dour Davey is an absolute buzzkill.

We're playing a midfielder who's all right foot at left back on the opening game of the season lol.
I think we're already in trouble.
Sound like a parrot but the bench in the pre season tournament in America was a massive warning. If theres one club that cant afford injuries its Everton. We've already lost two key defenders. Thinest of thin ice after 1 game.

Will have to disagree mate

Moyes started well and shocked me when he'd be saying elite players for an elite stadium. And how the target was Europe.

That's what we want. No point wallowing, especially at the moment.
