That's quite a who's who of Everton scoring prowess. We have a woeful history of forwards since the arrival of the Premier League. I'm not sure why we have any expectations that any will succeed to any substantive level. Barring Cottee, the Yak and Rom no other forward has really excelled for us. (I'm not counting a season in front of 0 fans) Barry shouldn't be written off any more that if we had signed Delap or anyone else. I think most most of us hoped Johnson, Beattie & Jela were going to score 20+ for us but it never happened. Best thing we can do is is to sign players who will assist in goals so it's not all down to the big man up front to get them all. Fingers crossed that we do actually sign a couple of decent right sided midfielders/wingers and a proper right back.

No. But those that had seen him play mostly agreed that he was not ready for Premier League.

If we had money and a half decent striker, Barry in as a punt wasn't necessarily a bad idea. But massively overpaying for some well hidden potential when a new number 9 should be top priority this summer never made sense.

I don't think we overpayed at all tbh. Can argue it wasn't the best allocation of limited funds available to us, but in terms of the deal we got - 30m for a highly rated, France u21 is just a good deal imo. Especially when you look at prices this summer.

In any case why don't we give him a chance to actually play before writing him off. Dont think the potential is 'well hidden' myself and think he will prove to be a success for us this season when he gets a run in the team.

Respectfully, do you really think any of these players are less of a punt than Barry? If anything they're just a similar level of player but older, less room for growth and more risk of losing money.
