Transfer Rumour Nathan Ake

This is a strange transfer for sure. But we have a paper thin squad so someone who can come in and play CB,LB, and defensive midfield makes perfect sense.
Moyes does love his utility players for sure, particularly a defensive minded one, but given I expect he has been available for most of the summer, it feels like a reactive signing possibly brought on by JB’s injury. Regardless of how good he is or isn’t, it just feels a little panicky to me, but I could be way off.

Bet his price has gone down which might be why we are interested

Perhaps those deals were just easier to get over the line?

If you are counting Keane as a centre back, then you can't claim Coleman and Patterson don't exist.
And if (as it seems) you are counting Ake as both a CB and a LB, then we have to include JOB in the RB column too. So we have 3 RBs.

I agree the backline is not balanced and we really need an automatic first choice RB that is much better than the options currently available, but we don't need to make things up to justify it.

Moyes won't be involved in any of the negotiations, but he will (and absolutely should) have the major say in which players our recruitment team go after.
If Moyes does not have a say in signing a player he just won’t pick him to play
So of course he has a say
Aznou was bought for the future.
If we sign Ake I would not be surprised to see Aznou go out on loan to a Championship club

What price are we looking to pay then?
No idea. Probably not much. Pep wants a smaller squad so they need to get some players out the door. Akanji was linked to Galatasaray yesterday for around £15 million but wants to stay at City. Ake is older and probably on a higher salary, so you'd think he would be cheaper than Akanji.

Wages more of a concern than transfer fee, but if his salary is too high City might pay him too leave so he can/will agree on a lower salary.

having slept on it, I still don’t get it.

His injury record is terrible.

His hamstrings look to be made of cheese.

I can agree that he’s a good player but doesn’t matter how good you are if your rarely available.

That isn’t what we need right now, just fees too risky.
