Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

The recruitment has been highly flawed this season I agree we should be better equipped with capable players for every position especially by the first game , but it's absurd to think we're not actively engaged in obtaining players at this moment
Being actively engaged is one thing, actually signing the right players in the right positions is another. There's no prizes for trying your hardest in the PL, it's not a school sports day.

I agree with having a clear plan of action that has purpose in achieving something attainable but there are posters trying to assert we're just idle which isn't accurate

I still think we’ll be fine you know. Getting 4-5 players in before deadline seems quite likely to me - we’ve often seen 3-4 on deadline day alone in previous windows, even without the cash that we seem to have available to us this year.

I also still think that the sheer volume of change, both in playing and back room staff that has been required has made it an extremely difficult ask to get everything we need done completed before that start of the season. Does that make these first few games rubbish? Yes, for sure. Is it immensely frustrating for us as supporters? Again, yes absolutely. But once this summer of frustration is over and we are thoroughly reset, I still firmly believe that we will come out the other side stronger and, with far less to do in future windows, will be much better placed to continue building towards a better future.

Might be wrong like, but I’ve not yet seen anything to overly surprise me or worry me unduly. We’re still back! It’s just going to take time.

As it stands we'll almost certainly be further away from that ultimate goal than we were last season. Hopefully there is a plan to rectify that in the next 13 days but the further into this window we get the less likely a coherent plan looks and the more likely we are to see a Lindstrom/Harrison we'll take what's available on loan approach to the window.

P.S. @Noisy noise annoys I'm not suggesting we will literally sign Harrison or Lindstrom, I know nothing gets your juices flowing more than that, I am merely suggesting that the longer the window goes the more likely we are to be left with that type of transfer.
I think it's fair to judge recruitment at the end of the window rather than before. It's annoying that results may suffer until then but Rome wasn't built in a day and I'm prepared to go through the tough moments in the hope we'll get it right going forward

Well said

You can’t plan for the long term when each season is completely different and injuries are an occupational hazard.

Planning for the long term sees us buying absolute crap like Patterson based on the delusional belief that growing a few pubes was going to transform him into being a player that could one day hack it in the SPL.

How far would relegation set us back in this grand master plan do you reckon? That side that played last night got absolutely bullied and outplayed by one of the promoted sides that everyone banks on failing to reach 30 points. It’s the final 2 weeks of the window and we look a million miles worse than we did when we finished last season.

While we’re at it, where does Jack Grealish for £12m for one season fit into a long term plan?
I'm not worried about relegation at all. We've had much worse sides than this and stayed up comfortably. Well I wasn't a huge fan of bringing Grealish in so I agree with your point there

Thelwell bought Patterson because he's a wing back and Thelwell and Lampard ultimately were going to start us using that system in time (Lampard being out of his depth put the kibosh on that idea)

So are we now perhaps pondering the idea that our esteemed recruitment team aren’t actually working to a long term plan and might in fact just be flailing around without a clue what they’re doing?

Same with Roma fc as well , took them some time to develop the quality side they have in place
