Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

The reality is, we combined with getting "sensible" and trying to implement a low wage structure system shedding top earners, we had e Pickford on around 120k, Tarks - last year of contract in around 100k, then whatever Branthwaite is now on, then the drop is to around 70k for any of the others.

We also now are haggling over deals prioritising overall cost over time to get a deal done, and walking away from any deal that the seller sticks relatively firmly to evaluation and asking price of.

Sounds great and sounds sensible.

Until you factor in there's another 19 teams in the league that aren't in a secret agreement with us that this is how we will all operate.

Meaning other clubs are paying fees higher than we are willing to do, players and agents realise that clients can get better wage deals elsewhere.

Take fafana - you offer him high enough wages it'd be European football - who cares.

Let's analyse what we can offer a player, zero silverware for twenty odd years, zero being close to it for about ten, no European footy in near on ten years, at least 4 serious relegation escapes in the past 8-9 years, around ten managers in 6-7 seasons, nearly went under financially, sanctioned recently by the league, the oldest manager in the league whose two years away from retirement.

Yea we have a nice stadium, and we have a very long historical league significance. But it matters nothing in truth, what matters is what you can offer players and agents and right now unless it's decent wages we have no advantage and many disadvantages over the majority of the league.

The only way around this bind, is you need to target players from lower leagues or less conventional leagues. Which again is not what we have done.

So the approach isn't joined up.

I have no idea why they think Southampton will buckle over Dibling either.

It wasn't meant to be like this.

It was supposed to be an unprecedented summer where loads left and loads arrived to improve the squad's quality.

Loads have gone, but loads haven't arrived to replace them, and those that have dont look like the required quality on current evidence.

All the game playing by the manager needs to end. That will help us in the last 2 weeks before the window shuts.

It's now about getting a squad together to survive.

That's where we are. The priority has changed from a once-only sling shot to a new era to making sure we can do what we did for the last few seasons and survive...this time in unfamiliar surroundings.

I'm sorry to say, that's where we are now.
Sad to say, but I agree!!
To survive ? Bit melodramatic after 1 game.
You did watch the game last night yeah? It was as bad as it gets for a premier League team.

I see no evidence of anything happening at all apart from shifting out loans.

I think its time for the press and the fans to petition the club.

Debating and speculating on here is pointless because frankly the office lights are off at transfer central Finch Farm.
Yeah let's write a strongly worded email to a global brand and tell them we're a bit perturbed. Like writing to Maccies complaining the buns are too soft.

Do you realise how desperate you sound ?

I wanted to keep hold of Thelwell myself, I saw value in who he'd brought in under literally almost impossible conditions financially, he also was after a good few players who post moves sky ticketed in value. Kudus, MGW etc.

I had doubts on Kinnear straight away, Hammond seems like his guy - the others who may change things up aren't in position yet.

Looking at Roma, Kinnear messes up the remaining few days a d we struggle which I believe we will without three-four good players arriving, then he will be sacked by Christmas

Im amazed Thelwell wasn't kept. Even if they put this structure on below him. It feels to be like Kinnears arrogance wanted him to fulfill that role.

Thelwell was the target of much ire on this forum, rightly or wrongly. Now you're saying we should've retained him as we've had a mini stumble during our rebuild? Let's pause and breath and realise its still August and we've had worse summers and worse starts under worse lords and masters.
