Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

No. Because Ive supported this team for over 50 years and watched them flirt with relagation pretty much the last 3 or 4. Thinking " dont worry, there's always 3 teams worse than us" is not a great business model. Sadly nothing about Everton these days is hysterical.
Our team is nowhere near relegation material. Sure we need more depth as seen yesterday but when the line up is fit it's comfortably midtable

But they’re not leading to that though are they? They’re leading to a situation where we’re going into the last two weeks of the window without a first team squad. This is the point of the window where teams pivot from that strategy and end up panic buying anyway, as we have routinely showed in the last 10 years. It’s never, ever worked the other way around.

Our strategy going into this window was upside down. We got it totally wrong. We shouldn’t have been trying to chase luxury Champions League quality players while we had a squad of 14 footballers, that’s utterly ridiculous and a sign that they don’t have a clue what they’re doing. We should’ve assembled the skeleton of a squad first and THEN looked to sprinkle the quality on top.
Okay Mike list me the signings we've not made then because our recruitment team isn't up to it

If Palace gazump us for Dibling the new owners will have a riot on their hands
Well that remains to be seen. Not a popular view but until proven otherwise ( which would make me very happy) im not unconvinced that the new owners think theyve bought some prime real estate that is associated to a football team. Either that or they better realize that EPL ownership is not for the meek.

And we know where buying useless players on big contracts gets us. People seem seem to want everything to be perfect for them immediately or just get angry. The club is clearly trying to get players in. Just relax ffs
We need to hire some people from the countless other clubs that can figure out how to get these non-useless players in before the first match. Especially when 30% of your outfield position has zero players. Useless or not

Well for me...the back four wasnt the biggest disappointment for me...it was the 6 players in front of them. They acted like they had never played together and had no interest in trying to score...I refuse to believe it is because Dacoure isnt there. I put that on Moyes...

I agree that the midfield was plop, but I'd argue that our most important midfielder was forced to play left back for the first time in his life because we have absolutely nothing at left back. You put someone as crap as Ashley Young at left back with Garner in midfield, and yesterday would have been a different game. Garner is underestimated. Our upturn in form last season coincided with his return to central midfield!

Yeah it is embarrassing what's happened to this fanbase. We've had a period of horrible management running the club into the ground, and it's turned us into a bunch of panic-stricken, cry-arsing babies.

You might think that anyone who disagrees with you is happy 'as long as we don't get relegated', but you would be wrong. Its not a binary where everything is either perfect or terrible. I'm not happy with the current squad, but i still have hope that we address it before the end of the window.

Internet is just a miserable place these days tbh. Everyone thinks they know everything. This forum and another non football related forum that I use feel like they're rapidly turning into twitter/reddit where it's just the loudest people with the most extreme opinions dominating conversation in every thread and boring everyone to death.
Great post in my opinion, you've summed up how I feel & you know how to put it across. Well done. x

Tell me three or four teams who look as bad as us today? Not what we might look like or should look like but today...the season has started...and dont get me wrong, im not saying we will be relegated im just saying to think that we are above that is well " hysterical".

I reckon we had an average of 5 players out injured for every game of last season.

So when everyone ‘is fit’ just isn’t going to happen.
Really? Pickford, O'Brien, Tarkowski, Gana, Garner, Iliman, Beto for starters are usually available for selection. Branthwaite is a worry granted as he's become injury prone. Grealish and the other signings seem to have good fitness records at their previous clubs. Alcaraz isn't injury prone either. Myko is injury prone but we don't really rate him as a fanbase anyway. I agree though Macca that we need more depth and I'm confident we'll get at least 3 in before the end of this window

I don’t think anyone is seriously suggesting spend money to spend money. Your original post was that we as a fan base was being naive and unrealistic about this summer. I don’t believe it is unrealistic to have all 11 positions covered by at least one person in the squad.

I think it was incredibly naive and unrealistic for our recruitment team to think going into our first match without a rw or rb or lb would give us a better negotiating position with key targets. I think any rationale person would look at Everton trying to negotiate for a right winger without a single one in the squad on aug19 and know that they have all the power in a negotiation.

So yes I think they should have got business done early. They should have had a rb and rw on the team Going into the first match. Even if they were a predicted backup. This was a failure by our recruitment team 100%
If you think the back up rw and rb for this season aren't already at the club then yh I do think you're being unrealistic and naive. We need starters for those positions, hence why we're taking time to negotiate deals to make sure we bring in the best players we can for the money have to spend.

As for the negotiating position we're in, that's been the case all summer and is why we're in this position. First game of the season has nothing to do with it, Moyes saying we're desperate has nothing to do with it. As I said previously we've had no leverage all summer because everyone in football knows that we had about 10 senior players at the start of summer, and desperately needed to bring in players. Responsibility for that unfortunately falls on previous regime, people at the club now can only play the hand they've been dealt.
