2025/26 David Moyes

Why are any of us surprised when dithering Davie reverts to type.

I agree with @davek, we should never have brought him back to the club. Yes, he did brilliantly to change the fortunes of the club given the perilous position we were in last season, but he has been very handsomely rewarded for that.

But to allow him to now continue to deliver this turgid tripe we saw last night for the next couple of seasons, has me genuinely worried.

Where is the football philosophy? When was the last time we dominated a game with progressive passing football.
Surely it can’t be that difficult to hire a coach who can implement that.
We as supporters have had to endure years of watching absolute garbage, whilst all the time and it pains me to say it, the other lot across the park despite constant changes in personnel still continue to play a passing game.

Thankfully, Billy Bullshine is not around anymore to keep dour Davie in post for longer than necessary, and the Friedkins will get rid for a more progressive manager like Glasner or Iraeola.

Honestly, his demeanor over pre season was a joke.

Evidently spent more time stewing over the fact that 'we're short on numbers' instead of actually preparing his squad for a new season. He often talked about how well they performed at the end of last season and wanted to 'take that momentum into the summer' only for that to just not materialise at all despite having 90% of those players still here!

He's starting to come across as a bit of a dinosaur, sadly. He should be far more enthusiastic about the platform he has to build off this season..

And so it begins again just one game into the season. Another new manager to turn the club around, and then when he arrives it'll be another 6 months before we demand he's changed as well.

Personally I'd give Moyes the whole season unless it looks like relegation is likely. We're not one of the top 6 clubs, we're probably not even top 10. He at least has a track record of improving clubs like us, which is exactly what we need right now.

Probably best to not compare us with Liverpool either. With them being one of the best teams in the world it's a comparison that's only going to make us miserable.

More than anything last night I was disappointed in the performance of a couple of players but Beto in particular.
When he got into the team last season his workrate was excellent, he chased every lost cause, worked hard and at the very least he made a nuisance of himself. Last night he looked for me at least totally disinterested almost like a player waiting to leave the club. I think DM needs to look at what is going on there.

I also think that in picking the team last night he tried to be too clever and tried to fit too many players into unfamiliar positions. James Garner playing where he did made no sense. We had Iroegbunam, KDH, Ndiaye all doing the same thing but we completely lost control of the game in midfield because we had no one playing as a 6, it seemed everyone was trying to play as a no. 10.

I think Armstrong would have been a better selection than Iroegbunam on the night or play three at the back and play McNeil as a left wing back.

That first half was bad, real bad. Our eleven shuffled around like they all hate one another. Something very out of sorts. Slight improvement second half, but that aint saying much. Can't hide behind a soft penalty from a rs payroll ref either.

Clear the air talks required. Something has to give.

He should have been thanked and had a concession stand named after him for his sterling work from January and then replaced by a new manager for a new era that the Friedkins had long been lining up.

But, of course, that would have required competence from the Friedkins - or even a plan.

We can all vent about Moyes here - and while he did a fine job for five months, I have never been a fan - but the real bitter pill is the slow realisation that the Friedkins are not all that.

Moyes is, basically, the least of our problems right now - but is, undoubtedly, part of the problem. The issue, it seems to me, is that the Friedkins - while excellent in terms of stabilising us - have seemed very unprepared for the chaos of the football operation bequeathed them by Moshiri and 25 years of Blue Bill's patented "Good Times" snake oil.

They've deeply underwhelmed...and we know it.

Is this sarcasm?
