Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It won't be all that melodramatic if our squad is weaker than it has been in recent years and the promoted teams aren't as gash as they have been over the last couple of years.

I'm not pining for the return of a 50 year old Ashley Young, but if he was present last night then we would have had an actual LB playing LB, and we wouldn't have had to deprive ourselves of Garner in CM. At present, we become utterly screwed just through an injury to Mykolenko, and he's starting to get injuries frequently.

Doucoure was actually capable of pressing as a number 10, something none of our current 'number 10's' are capable of. It makes a difference.

I've been banging this drum all summer. Our midfield is soooo bad. I love Gana but the wheels have got to fall off that wagon at some point, especially if he's carrying the whole thing on his back. And he was never particularly great on the ball at some point. The fact that arguably Sunderland have a better and more well-rounded prem-level CM pairing is hilarious.

We went hard and early for striker. Then we've had 5 or 6 (?) RW targets that we've at least tried to get. The grand sum of CM activity has been...seeing if Luiz will come on loan?

On a related note, seems insane to me that Leeds got Stach for 17m and we didn't look into that. Good passer, good defensively, good price. Easy upgrade on Garner who we could probably flip to bank a profit if needed. Bizarre.

Penny dropped that people aren’t actually “bedwetting” now?

Some people want and pay to see some progress. Not this amateur approach the club have carried on with again this season with player recruitment.
Personally much more concerned with how Moyes has prepped them for the season to be honest, or lack thereof.

We'll naturally get better.. but bleedin ell at the very least I'd like to see us actually take some momentum into a new season for once!

Why else would you play so many out of position?

And the only LB in the squad is not just omitted from the starting line up ( somewhat understandable given experience and age )

But is not even on the bench that constrains two GK’s
Absolutely not understandable unless he was injured surely he’s our back up LB probably been drilled in that position for years and left footed, instead of a right footed cm playing LB. If he wasn’t injured it’s a disgrace to have 2 Gks on the bench and him not even making the side. Or is it another case of money wasted? I’m not writing him off either but if he was available and left out shows how far off he actually is not to have an actual full back in the starting 11

It's impossible to take momentum into the new season when recruitment is poor and late and the team has a disastrous pre season.

It's nothing to do with coaching. It's a lack of preparation and a lack of support for the manager

It's the old cliche but it's true - fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

More signings wont sort out performances like last night by the way - only coaching and proper preparation does that. You can buy all the wingers and fullbacks you want....
I look at our back 4 and midfield pairing yesterday and think more signings would definitely sort that out.

The personnel was the biggest issue. Square pegs in round holes yet again.

I’m not sure how much coaching could have been done in the space of a week to combat us having to play a completely makeshift defence and midfield pairing.

Im glad we didn’t waste money on
Gnonto, nowhere near good enough

Maybe. But he's 21 and we went after him from when he was 19. So hes time to develop.

However, its more the profile - pacy and direct, gets behind a defence.

But we seem to be willing to spend big money on a possession based player similar to players we already have.

Mate you keep saying this like it literally isn't the manager and his coaching staff who are ultimately responsible for this!

A coach gets paid to prepare his squad for competitive football matches. 'A good carpenter never blames his tools' no?
