Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Still baffles me that the window is not closed before the season starts, they need to find a way to fix this across europe. Makes the first 3 games a lottery when squads are not finalised, imagine we do miraculously sign a starting RW, RB and striker, and then hammer one of Leeds relegation rivals in a couple of weeks time - huge advantage to Leeds playing a team that has not finalised its squad yet.

Similarly a poor start from a money team gives chance to kneejerk and drop 100m on someone.

I said this last night but I’ll say it again…

I honestly feel the budget left wouldn’t come close to addressing the gaps we have.

Although it makes the squad smaller temporarily, I genuinely feel we need to try & sell a few that are replaceable.

Any from Beto, Mykolenko, McNeil, Patterson, Chermiti could increase budget fairly significantly. (I’m not saying all of them)

Even just Beto & McNeil could probably then give us an increased budget to go after a RB, LB, RW, CM, ST of better quality without then missing those 2 players.

I just don’t see how a current budget being swallowed up by say a Dibbling, still allows us to bring in other quality players we still desperately need.

Budget needs a big top up!

Who are the sacrificial lambs?!

Last night showed why it is imperative to have players that are natural in their positions and most notably at FB. We were pinned in for pretty much all of the first half and it was evident with Garner and JOB at times that they weren't sure where to be or where to go on the pitch. A natural FB, even if they're a worse player overall or on the ball, would know where to position themselves better. This is why I think a RB is just as important as a RW. It's vital that we sort that out.

You just can't get by in this league anymore by having utility players throughout the squad. You need proven quality in their natural positions all over the pitch.

Let's get this right.

1. We went into the season without a right winger, right back and proven striker.
2. (I guess) the board thought we could patch a team together to get a result/results in the first game(s).
3. When we saw the teamsheet most of us knew what was coming.
4. We looked like a bad Sunday league team in the first half.
5. We improved slightly in second half yet didn't genuinely test their keeper at all over 97 minutes.
6. We've now started the season with a completely avoidable defeat and our numerous problem areas are starker than they've ever been.
7. We now have 6 days until a historic game in our new stadium.

Surely, surely the recruitment team isn't going to send these same players into another defeat against Brighton?

The only thing I take from a continued inability to bring in players is that actually maybe we somehow don't have any money and won't be signing anybody else—there is no explanation for failure over 2-3 months to close these positions.
I dont think we will have any new players then. If we play anything like close to last night, we will get battered. We (incl thr manager) must do a whole lot better. I was really surprised how bad we started last night. Despite the recruitment, or lack thereof for key positions amd the additions, it was really poor.

Plenty of Virgins in here we could offer up based on some of the hysteria in here recently

What alarmed me most about last night and what should enlighten our recruitment were 2 things - players played out of position and a lack of balance.

At centre half you can probably play Tarkowski or O'Brien ( and possibly even Keane ) but you have to play a ball playing centre half alongside them. In the absence of Branthwaite we don't have one.

At RB , well we don't have one and need one desperately but you might get away with O'Brien there if he has a natural RW ahead of him.

At LB we only have Mykolenko and he's as limited as O'Brien going forwards. Again you might be ok with one defensive full back but not two. Aznou - who knows?

At CM neither Tim nor Gana are comfortable on the ball or being pressed. Gana has other qualities but is ageing. You can play him with Garner or KDH who are more comfortable on the ball but in reality you need a really good CDM to sit in front of the back 4 and then either Gana , Garner or KDH to partner . Probably KDH I suppose.

At 10 KDH looked lost. You have to play Grealish the best quality footballer that we have at 10. He is an incredibly intelligent player who will know when to drop in and when to dictate play. Alcaraz there is a headless chicken.

We obviously have no RW. We have no one that can play there.

LW is probably the only position, along perhaps with 10 , that we have an obvious starter and cover for.

Beto is shocking. Everything breaks down with him. Is Barry any better ? We need to get rid of Beto and bring in a CF that at the very least can lead the line.

So less than 2 weeks to bring in;
1. Ball playing CH
2. RB - don't care if they are just defensive provided we get
3. RW
4. CDM
5. Striker

In addition Moyes has to decide if Aznou is good enough as LB back up - perhaps our new ball playing CB can cover there.

So much to do, so little time.

I think Beto has proved that given the right service and playing to his strengths, he will score goals in the Premier League, after all he did score quite a few last season, so we do have a proven striker.

Barry as yet is an unknown, but he scored a fair few in La Liga and looks well suited to the Prem.

We won’t be buying another striker, especially with all those holes to fill on the right hand side.

We need a starting right winger, we need a starting right back, need a starting defensive mid - that's bare minimum to have a functioning dude when healthy.

In reality we need another 4-5 on top of those to have anything resembling a functioning squad and it's clear as day now that McNeil is not rated by Moyes, Beto is simply not good enough and looks completely not arsed, and Tim is miles away from the standard required, all three should be sold in order to bring in more funds to bring in better.

O'Brien btw, requires a workhorse doing loads of defensive work ahead of him to seem decent at right back, soon as he didn't - oh boy did he look like a 6'5 Centre half trying to play fullback....

Often said we lack pace - which we do, I also think we massively lack physicality - especially in midfield,

My issue with Beto is he looks disinterested both when we had it and more worryingly when we don't, last season the one thing you could rely on is he'd busy a guy all game long, last night he barely broke into a jog....

Not sure what changed but the effort is what elevated him to bring an ok striker, without it he's garbage - bit I'd take any offer over 20 for him in a heartbeat now

The only saving grace is that there’s only 12 days of this window left, it isn’t going to be months of protracted posturing, mulling, intensifying interest, negotiating and planning bids. It will either be or it will not, and then we will have a clearer picture of where we are this year. Will it be same old Everton or will it be progress?
