I understand the principle
But if adhering to a principle means you miss out on a player you value highly , that’s poor .
And if that player fulfils his potential, I don’t think many will praise our judgement for losing out for the sake of a principle , that would have cost us no actual money to ignore .

It’s not poor. You put a valuation on a player and really shouldn’t exceed it too heavily, whether it’s the fee or the sell on. Certainly not so we can get him in for a few cameos in August.

This bit isn't Moyes' decision.

He can state that he doesn't want the player, but if the recruitment team do and the price is right, then the player will come in irrespective of Moyes's thoughts.

This isn't just specific to Fellows btw; it's relevant to every target. It's not solely down to the manager; and nor should it be. Moyes is simply a cog in the machine and in all likelihood isn't going to be at Everton after the end of this season, so the club will bring in players for the club, for the balance sheet and for the future.
