Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Alcaraz hasn't really done anything exceptional yet to earn a start, and especially now since we have both Grealish and Ndiaye whose best two positions are both left wing or number 10... doesn't really leave any room for poor Carlitos who can really only play in number 10 role.

Dewsbury-Hall is more or less guaranteed to start every time he is fit, deffo. Much more rounded player than Alcaraz and better in virtually all aspects of the game.

I think Alcaraz would be a liability played deeper or shifted to the wing.

I disagree with almost everything youve written here.

So much so, that im going to bed.

I think the part you've not addressed is that it is almost certain Moyes is the one who pushed to have a significant say in recruitment and has form for this at his previous clubs, as well as significant failure over a decade.
We have experienced it previously so there is no argument from me. Responsibility is collective across that group not singular. The status quo is sub-optimal but there is still a window for individual and collective improvement. Let us hope they deliver it. If they don’t some of the criticism will be more fully deserved.

Wasn’t supposed to be like this. From the time we stormed away from relegation worries right up to kick off on Monday was supposed to be excitement and optimism.

Whether it’s someone fault, state of the market, or our current lack of pulling power, the transfer situation slowly added angst, with a few brief spurts of confidence when we made signings. Getting worse now as a few teams shopping in similar markets have sprung into life.

Since they all came back from their hols it’s been nothing but unforced errors and missed chances in friendlies, beer prices and concrete dust, and no right winger.

Worries about the squad are making other niggles more annoying for everyone, even Moyes.

Hopefully end up ok by September, but certainly not flying into the start of the season full of expectation. Whatever extra needed to spent to get deals done early (which would be spread over multiple years anyway) would have been absolutely worth it given it was supposed to be this grand re-birth.

He's still young, can develop more and will anyhow get plenty of games this season as we always love picking up serious injuries early into the season which keep key players out for months.
I think Alcaraz is more of a ten whilst KDH is more of a 8 who can play 10, different profiles really and you need options. I agree he doesn't suit a wing though his skills are driving with the ball and slipping others in he will be a off the bench and in rotation in my view. I would like to see Grealish or Alcaraz at ten and KDH at 8 in some home games...

It's clear we are not as ready for our opening fixtures as we should be. I'm not sure that's something that can really be argued.

But it also doesn't mean we can't finish the month well with good recruitment.

Both are true

Sums up nearly every single "debate" in modern discourse. Peoples minds simply unable to process multiple things can be true at once.

Nothing anyone says on here is helpful or is going to rectify anything. The cringe positivity and blind faith isn’t going to help anything or make our recruitment team any more competent either.
Maybe it's just better to live life without having constant panic attacks and outbursts due to the game of grown men kicking a football, even if you have legitimate gripes about the recruitment process

Its not Mike's fault.

I was like Mike, you care a lot, it grinds you down, its so easy, just buy players.

But then something happens, you step back, Everton is no longer consuming your life and as you say, its just 22 lads playing footy.

Its not that deep.

But you can't teach people this, they have to learn it.

Barry
Alcaraz
Aznou
2 English speaking keepers, a CM from chelsea formerly of leicester, and a loan from city.

Some of the support take things a little to literal without looking at the total picture.
I meant specifically for the RW position and alternatives we seem to have been interested in. Since the Fofana links it has only been players that have played in the PL

Isn't it amazing how some people are so quick to defend incompetence?

Our window, so far, has been a massive failure. That can change - but it's not certain that it will given our history of ignoring the right side for so long, whether it be a replacement for Coleman or a winger.

Skepticism should be the default - until proven otherwise. Lose on Monday night, and this place will go up like a tinder box. That won't be "bed-wetting" - that will be the inevitable result of justified frustration at the inadequate performance of the "competent professionals" running the club.

We're way behind where we needed to be (and expected to be) even allowing for the reality that one window was never going to solve all of our issues. We've barely scratched the surface, and the Grealish deal is looking like an act of temporary appeasement with each passing non-event of a transfer window day.
I agree - this does feel so reminiscent of the previous Moyes era where we started too many seasons without the right players at the right time. Whether that’s Moyes himself or circumstances is a different question but there’s correlation and he’s the person at the top of the recruitment team.
