Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It's a joke the way that so many people here are freaking out.

Club finally did what the same people have been begging them to do for years, by releasing a whole load of squad players. Did they really think that rebuilding the team in one transfer window would be easy ?

We know that Moyes is still 100% committed to bringing players in.

We know that we still have scope to bring in loan players. Perhaps that's why we've not been bidding for any RBs, because we're waiting on loan targets to become available.

Once we nail a quality RW, and believe me we will, the mood music here will start to change.

I think it's great that the dross have been released.

I dont think it's great that Keane and Coleman have been retained.

I think if anyone had been asked whether our main business would be to:

Strengthen LW/ACM: With Grealish
Strengthen ACM/LCM with KDH
Strengthen CF with Barry

When we had Ndiaye, Alcaraz, Gana and Beto for those positions.

Then most posters would be wondering why we hadnt signed players at RB and RW.

That seems quite a logical position to take dont you think?

I do think that Moyes comments on transfers yesterday were more in expectation than in hope.

Thinking that the RW will be a full transfer and then see what is left for loans and what opportunities come up.

I'm allowing myself a little excitement for the end of the window so hoping it won't be a damp squib. It seems clear that Moyes wants Dibling to be done and if that could at all get sorted next week, it would take some of the pressure off.

If not then that could come down to another loan.

Yet

KDH £28mil
Barry £27.5mil
Alcaraz £12.5mil
Grealish £12mil+
Aznou £9mil
Travers £4mil
King £undisclosed

= £93mil++
Is the 12m Grealish his wages? if you include that then surely you need to include all their wages. I suppose his wages are premium though so get your point.

I got the impression that he had gone more 'anti-loan' for main players (rather than squad fillers), having seen what holes they leave when they return to their parent clubs. Definitely think the right wing will eventually be a purchase, maybe along with a central midfielder on loan to buy. His reaction to right back seemed to imply a loan, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a striker on loan as well to fill the hole of Chermiti.

And we probably still need to spend another ~90 just to have a functioning squad. Wild.

Certainly not the approach i'd have taken this window.

Ive taken the position that as we pay City a fee of £12mil+. That is the loan cost rather than itemising the wages that City would continue to pay.

It’s been an interesting window. We wanted wholesale changes. DCL, Doucs, Young, Harrison, Lindstrom, Broja, Mangala all gone. Think most would be happy with that lot. Some may have kept one or two, some may have wanted a couple to go but generally we got rid off what this forum have been crying for.

The ins though, at least for me feel too few and not quite good enough. Grealish and KDH are the highlights. The rest I am not sure start at this point.

Extending Branthwaite and Pickford (did we do that ?) were good signs. Gana short term probably sensible too.

I am probably thinking that the first XI is better in a couple of areas but the rest don’t start. I still think we need RB and LB, RW, DM, CF. I suspect that we are rubbing up against PSR if we push the boat out for Dibbling and that is the issue.

Hopefully the loans that will come in will strengthen us squad depth wise but also hope to see a first XI starter come in yet.

TFG tried to keep Thelwell but he did not want to accept a lesser role in the committee style structure TFG and Kinnear wanted. The club announced Kinnear would join and that Thelwell would leave on 1/6/25 in a joint announcement on 7/3/25 that also included Chong’s new role. Thelwell left a little earlier than planned when Rangers offered him a job and Everton chose to let him leave early as a thank you for work done. Moyes and Thelwell did butt heads a little in January and that definitely contributed to his decision but it was the hiring of Kinnear that made up his mind.

Kinnear didn't join til May so not sure how they butted heads in January

I'd have kept an injury free Mangala mate , out of that lot.
