That's a bit harsh I feel. Gomes was okay until Son took him out. This team was 2nd and Christmas and still top 4 around March??

Sure players go up and down and have fitness issues. It's also easy to look at that team now and say, Keane, Doucoure, Gomes, DCL and Coleman are trouble points. Over two summer windows though we could have added 4 new first team players and elevated that whole side. The subs would have then been better too.

We just couldn't due to PSR, to start with you have to go to the max to entice players to come and it's fine if you get it right first time and you in the CL every year to earn the extra to kick on again. We gambled and didn't get there, then we lost all funding at the time we were building a new stadium. If that hadn't happened perhaps we would have cooked the books further with USM sponsorship. Moshiri gets a bad rap but there is usually no chance that the worst case scenario actually presents itself.

Benitez didn't help either, tbf. Obviously money was tight by that point, but booting Rodriguez and Digne so he could bring in Patterson, Rondon, Gray, Myko and Townsend was just shambolic. They're not all £ for £ bad signings like, but were they worth getting rid of arguably our 2 best players for? Gray was decent enough for the price, as was Townsend on a free, but we'd have done better if he just kept the team together and picked up a utility player who could cover midfield and full back and Townsend. Think we desperately needed a striker like, but with players like Jameththth and Digne in the team, with that era DCL and Richy then I don't think we'd have done any worse than we ultimately did had we just not bothered signing Gray, Rondon and Patterson. Finding it hard to criticise Myko tbh, as he's proving a very solid player and a smart buy at £11 million, but the feeling persists that we didn't actually need a new left back at that time. Certainly not at the expense of losing Digne.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing like, but it's a sad state of affairs when you realise Digne would still, even today, be our first choice left back.

After telling us earlier to pee off Saints have realised we're the last bird left in the club and are desperatly trying to convince us we are indeed the one that they want.

I agree with the model however given the teams requirements & psr we can’t be spending so much on one player. In short model is right but not the execution. I would say Azhnou is more in line with what we need to do. This is also why we shouldn’t be touching Grealish.
Don’t agree, not every signing will be the same, there has to be a mix of experience and youth. You need players that have experience, and Jack Grealish knows what it takes to win. The Grealish signing also makes a statement and makes other high profile players think ok maybe they are worth looking at. Don’t forget where we have been, we need to change the image of this club. The new owners appear to be trying to make changes from top to bottom and rightfully addressing the culture that has enveloped this club for to long.
