I doubt it's the fee that's the holdup. I suspect the sell on clause is what's ruining the deal. But, a way around that is for Everton to also insert a sell on clause or some other target based bonus when we sell him on.

Yep, we all know that. But this isn't about that, as you well know. This is about people constantly criticising the club thinking they know better how the transfer window works, how much we can spend altogether, what our optimal player strategy actually is in relation to potential and experience in any position, what our actual PSR position is, and given all that how we balance immediate need with medium term strategy.
