Great players know when they’re ready. I admire Baines even more for it. He didn’t want his performances to drop, he didn’t want his career to end playing in lesser leagues. A top player who went out at the very top. What a player. His goals and assists from full back were insane. Up there with the very best in the PL era. Just a shame he was competing with arguably the worlds best LB at the time - Cole for an England start.

Spot on Sir but, don't forget, we have some posters amongst us who, by the sheer volume of their posts on every single thread, have far, far superior knowledge to the manager, the board and all the coaching/scouting team combined.

To be fair it wasn’t that long ago we signed about 5 attacking mids for the same position (Klaasen etc) and it worked out horribly on the pitch and financially. It’s a valid concern.
