Well, we have no option but to give plenty of them time.

But I wouldn't expect, say, Dwight McNeil to become Trevor Steven because we get a bit more stability. Players like him just don't have the ceiling to drive us into, say, Champions League contention even with all the stability in the world. And why would we expect that they would, anyway. They came to us because we were, effectively, on hard times.

The best we might get out of a Garner with stability is a solid squad player who comes on to do a job when needed. But we'll win nothing with these lads.

Garner and McNeil are the sort of players we need to make squad options moving forward. The problem in recent seasons is they’ve been our more reliable players and the team looks worse without them. They’re not going anywhere this season but perhaps next summer we’ll be in a position to move on McNeil.
