Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Pep was always always always about system over player, it's why he didn't really mind losing Samuel Eto, Ronaldinho, and why his core at Barca had grown up in a system at Barca - only exception really was Messi who was just so out of the normal that he could show that individuality and pep couldn't stifle it.

Arguably Ferguson was very similar btw if you think about Rooney etc.
And who could forget his complete failure to integrate Zlatan into his Barca system

A lot of it seems stylistic with Pep too. I'm not going to knock him after what he's won but not sure he quite knew how to fit Grealish in. But I suppose when you have Haaland, Foden, De Bruyne etc you can't just build your team to get the best out of Grealish.
Grealish was never suited to City, made it worse when Pep stifled his creativity and made him turn back and make 5 yard passes, then replace him with Doku and let him run at players. Always baffles me that.

Actually, any of these DM's over that Lopy competition winner:

Morten Frendrup
Shea Charles
Sydie Peck
Valentin Atangana
Eric Martel
Samu Costa
Demir Tiknaz
Never heard of any of them. I’m quite happy for us to steer clear of any player I’ve never seen or heard of. It’s worked well for us, most of our flops I’d never heard of, and most of our successes were known.

If we pull a deal off for Jack then it will be the biggest transfer we have made in decades. Not only for his ability but the prestige he brings to the club very much like James did but sadly covid saw that off too soon. Can't be underestimated how much attention he would bring plus he's actually a really really good footy player with a point to prove. I for one would be delighted if we pull this one off.

Not really sure any argument about Pep stifling anyone holds any weight tbh. But there's gaping chasm between good enough for him and being good enough for us so it ultimately doesn't matter.
