Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It's conjecture though Dave, just as likely Kinnear was hired to call the shots and he got rid of Thelwell because of Moyes' demonstrable attitude in this regard, no?
Yes, I can see that. But I can also see a new broom wanting to brush clean and Thelwell was seen as the old regime by TFG.

They're clueless and should stick to flogging second hand cars.

Cottee scored loads of goals for us; it wasn't his fault the rest of his team mates weren't up to his standards.
We finished 4th the season before he arrived won it the season before that, Tony Cottee was a good player who played good for Everton we signed him when we were still capable of attracting Great players who'd have been great for the club. I firmly believe that this signing for a British record fee was the first in a long list of poor recruitment decisions.

Just didn't get the type of support in the rest of the team was his problem.

I'm sure I read somewhere that we were going to focus our scouting in the Brazilian and Argentanian league. Have we even been linked with anyone there?

I don’t know why we’d do that tbh. Players there want to play for Madrid Barcelona or Benfica and after that they’ll take Atletico or Serie A clubs. Chelsea seems to be the only club they’ll join in England. I can’t imagine any player coming up in Brazil or Argentina wants to play for Everton.

I’d rather Everton scouts picked up the next Bale, Kane, Coleman, Ramsey, Bellingham etc. before our competitors did that we actually had a chance of bringing to the club rather than attending games in South America sitting next to scouts from Real Madrid Chelsea or Benfica. We’ve got zero chance in that market.

Desperate to slide TFG into the back of the net in the last minute Dave? Kinnear and Moyes are culpable here imo. TFG pay for a lot of experts to nurture their interests here.

I much prefer a summer of not being able to get Dibling to a summer of not being able to get Willy Gnonto

Shared my view before, during and now - that removing them was a mistake.

If it was my club, I'd have given Thelwell/Purdy a go with some money - we were definitely in for the likes of Gyokeres, Kudus, Wesley, Minteh, Elanga, Ekitike - but it was always £0 upfront or loan, and 'come and play for Dyche/point deduction FC lad' or relying on someone else moving as part of the arrangement.

Instead, we've... well, I'm not actually sure what we've done;

Christ we are a basket case club this week because we didn't sign some no-mark from the championship to play in a mickey mouse league up north.

Take a day off Dave.

Surely we should have a cohesive presence in as many countries as possible .
South America produces a large number of technically brilliant and exciting players.
Just concentrating on Britain would leave us competing for fewer quality players amidst powerful PL clubs .
There is far more value to be gained abroad then here.
