Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Mate neither wanted to come.

But yeah, ‘so easily’.
Yes its difficult especially with nine teams in Europe, but If you scout properly you can attain a right winger who could develop and is of standard. We just make excuses while other clubs like Bournemouth, Brentford et al even Sunderland fill positions and reinforce. We make too many excuses for the club for me.. If people really want to judge them on September the 1st after we have left ourselves weakened for two games fine, let's do that. But I also look at years, years of not addressing fundamental issues at right wing, right back and the chronic lack of pace in the team and not all of that is about finances or players saying no, its about poor recruitment, scouting and a "oh well this will do" attitude at the club.

Don’t think people give a toss about the pre season tournament, think it’s more how extremely thin the squad is at pre season tournament. We’ve known who was staying and going since way back to not have several targets lined up is shocking. If Brownhill is a genuine target why not go and get xhaka better player than Brownhill 3 years older but Brownhill is 30 this year, are we getting him because he’s cheap? So yes patience is a virtue if we’re signing the right players but not just options because they’re cheap and have premier league experience.
Xhaka would want to be a first teamer and we have Gana in that role. Brownhill would be a cheap squad filler who'll want game time so I don't think he's a good idea either as his Premier League record is not exactly stellar

If on 1st September you look at that squad and go Jesus…i never thought we’d have a squad with quality like that! Then all this stress was pointless as TFG/Kinner knew what they were doing.

Equally if on 1st September you look at that squad and go Jesus…we re-signed CL and Jack Harrison we're screwed!!
All true. But as a fanbase, it's the so-called "pessimists" who have the outstanding track record of predictions over the last 30 years. The "optimists" are still back in 1995 predicting the rebirth of our great club whilst shining up the FA Cup.

Whilst I don’t agree with the strategy, it is clearly being said to judge the transfer team at the close of the window. Now fans can feel this is not acceptable,as it impacts on games in August, but I guess the people that matter, our owners, have agreed that this is the plan.

No way does any business have part of it just doing there thing without boardroom/owners say so.

I guess we judge them on September 1st and how the season goes.

We are giving ourselves a task to bed any players that come in late too.. But its Everton and it never changes.

The line seems to have come from Joyce tbf and there are a few things on twitter this morning saying we are 'readying' our bid for him.

for the life of me and don’t understand all this readying or preparing a bid .

I’m assuming it just means in talks over the fee or negotiating which does make sense but this
That's a fairpoint mate, but I fear the reality facing us is that we are forced into a trade off.

If we want a chance to get our highest priority players in this window, we pretty much have to accept that we will be running a big risk in the August fixtures, in terms of the squad. There is also the risk that we don't get (any of) the players we want, and that's the gamble to weigh up. I wouldn't be surprised if that's how the recruitment and management team are now thinking.

The flip side is that we fill up now with 2nd / 3rd choice / uninspiring signings for the sake of (maybe) saving a few points in August, but then we're stuck with them for a few seasons and have spent a vital part of our warchest that was reserved for quality players.

So it's whether you take a short term or long term view.
again I don’t disagree with you and I was banging that drum the other week , that’s the point it was a couple of weeks ago .

Getting our targets is key and I also understand loans tend to happen at the end of the window when clubs are unable to sell . However we’re 11 days from the season kicking off and we’ve failed to target our key areas .

I’m not losing my mind but I’m not impressed

What about addressing a clear need early on and scouting and securing someone we absolutely need. Then we can wait for any other targets later in the window. We knew we needed a right winger last summer, we knew we needed one in January.

The problem with this is that is a word-for-word quote of Farhad Moshiri.

"Judge us when the window closes."

Now, these guys are not Moshiri, but they are using the same PR strategy, it seems. As a fanbase, this is not our first rodeo with reassuring statements of near-future intent. Skepticism is the correct default right now.
