2024/25 David Moyes

Looking at Man City when the Arabs took over, they overpaid for a few to put their name on the map. You need to show some ambition by making a marquee signing.

We’re making no signings!
The with that is that City could afford to over pay for a few big signings, and could afford to pay inflated wages, and keep doing it ever since, and not give a toss about spending because they were n`t bothered about any of the financial rules the rest of us have to follow.

Pretty clear the Friedkins aren't in the same league as the Arabs or Thaksin.

There hasn't been a single marquee moment since they took over. Not a single "wow". Moyes came back as manager - a very good short-term appointment that was uninspiring from the perspective of future orientation. That they kept him on was both telling and logical - but you've got to back him if you're keeping him on.

For those of us dreamers who thought they might bring in a big name, a la Mourinho, could you imagine the drama if Jose or someone of his ilk was overseeing this lack of transfer activity this summer? Then again, perhaps that explains why they were never truly in the market for a manager like that. They simply didn't have the ambition.

Moyes needs backing - big time - and pronto or there will be chaos come November.

Mourinho has been mince for years though. Talk about living on past glories.

I agree with you over the need to back the manager but Mourinho would have been no better for us in the long term. He would have had more pulling power certainly, so might have attracted some of the names that aren’t falling over at the thought of working under Moyes, but he would still have been a stopgap until we could get someone younger in to take us forward.

I would have taken him over Moyes, purely for the accompanying stardust, but I don’t think he would have made that much difference. Even with the squad as it is, Moyes will get a tune out of them and make us less likely relegation fodder this year. I want more than that, but we’re still a basket case of a club to the rest of the world until we gain some stability with a higher league position.

Hope he criticises the recruitment even more tomorrow. It seems like the only thing that will get them into action

Not sure why a lot of Evertonisns can't see what Moyes is doing.

He hates working with a DOF and not being the one buying players. It's quite clear looking at business done, bids gone in and Moyes reaction and comments especially so s out needing experienced premier proven players, that he's been frozen out of being the main decider of who we buy.

And his comments are designed to get the recruitment to bend to his will and bring in the experienced players he wants.

Hopefully the bus for Dibling shows they've completely ignored him as Moyes would stack this squad with soucek, Longstaff and that ilk.

I would far rather see Moyes get the players he wants than any DOF or recruitment committee. I trust him far more.

The DOF model has been a complete failure since it was introduced at Everton. So many players signed who didn't suit what the manager was trying to do. And so many seasons where the manager was not backed with the players they needed.

I wonder if he didn’t want Travers. There was a very friendly question about him after the last match - along lines of ‘Travers made some good saves after that mistake..’ but Moyes wasn’t having any of it.

There's nothing clear about it. You are just pulling it all out of your arse.
