You don’t go straight in on the first bid, especially not for good players
Rumors are they have upped it to 40 million plus which is a bit speculative from them ,,,, as his stats are not that great -

Season Appearances Goals Assists

2024/25 - played 38 scored 4 assist 3 - he though always stood out and is very direct in a poor team - he also won 2 pens - very fast ....

19 years old, not even 20 until the @rse end of the season, and people think he’s overpriced at 35 million? LOL.

Some of those creative moves were ridiculous and he’d have had a ton of assists if Southampton weren’t so rubbish.

No doubt the lad is a talent, but I don’t think I saw one cross from the byline with his right foot… isn’t that slightly limiting for a right winger?.. I know it’s the vogue blah blah but..?

I don’t think it’s so much vogue , it’s more that the traditional wing player who legs it down to the byline and whips it in , enjoys less success these days . Teams generally find it easier to defend against, maybe increased athleticism, improved tactics.
Many strikers now prefer running onto to through balls , Beto for us is definitely better at this than being the more conventional centre Forward type .
Getting the ball into danger areas in the box tends to produce better results these days .
And this lad appears to do well at this .
Plus he seems to be a good striker of the ball himself.
