Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Whinging we haven’t had FA’s lined up but not being able to name any is just bonkers how don’t you see that.

Maybe we did offer Semedo a contract and he preferred going to Turkey for a title challenge? He was out of contract for like a day.

It’s not bonkers. He’s saying he’s surprised our global scouting network hadn’t identified and lined up a free agent that would have helped bulk up a squad desperately shorn of quality and quantity.

Not that outrageous.

I agree that sorting FA’s out early is a great idea but there have to be ones out there that actually bring something to the squad like Tete. I can check when I’m home but can’t remember too many good, gettable FA’s have moved so far I was gutted about.
With new ownership I expected to see more urgency in recruitment and plans put into action early. Good teams who are organised have signings lined up right at the start of the window, even before it opens some times.

I know it's not easy but if it was easy then we all could work in football. I don't think the fact that it's difficult is an excuse for experienced and highly rated football professionals.

And the fact our squad looks so bad also means it should be very achievable to make improvements. It's not like we need elite players to make us better.

Yeh we should be miles further along by now, totally agree, seems we’re maybe just trying to reach above our station at the minute.

European sides do FA signings way better than the PL though.

Are we moving goalposts here or inventing new ones.

What are you on about? You’re the one who started making up hypothetical reactions I would’ve had in May to things. Why don’t we go back to talking about the fact it’s August and we have 17 senior players on the books? I’d be fine with Brownhill as a signing right now because we’ve bought no midfielders and have the worst set of midfield options in the league.

Hypothetical?

Personally I’m glad we didn’t go down the route of bringing all Dyche’s old mates from Burnley back like Brownhill and Charlie Taylor and the likes. We already bent over and compromised too much by allowing him to extend Ashley Young’s contract. I’ll certainly criticise Thelwell on that one, he should’ve stood up to the manager and laughed in his face at the suggestion of even bringing him into the club.

If he doesn’t like the DOF model then he is more than welcome to show himself the door.

Hypothetical?

Well, that’s from September 2024 so isn’t even relevant in the slightest. If we’re doing the hypothetical thing, try and find something that is in a little bit relevant to our current situation. Which is the fact we’ve got a squad of 17 senior players.

FAs aren’t a miracle option.

Most aren’t great (hence free agents)
The rest want inflated wages (hence free agents)

Example: DCL

Sometimes there are solid options, but they are also wanted by lots of clubs, and so Everton would run into the same recruiting problem (no CL, etc.)
