Last memory of Waddle as a player was him dumping us out of the FA Cup for Bradford.

Actually just looked it up - he then went on to play 7 games for Sunderland. Scoring once. Against us obviously.

His penalty against the Germans summed him up. When he had to think, he was wild.

But he did take strides at Marseille where he became a far better player than he was in England.

All said, he hadn't half the brain of a Trevor Steven who played at a time when intelligence was almost held against a player.
