Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Thought this was an interesting read.

Doesn’t change the fact that we can barely put out a starting 11 and have a giant CB playing RB, but interesting nonetheless
This was always going to be the case by the way. Happens every single summer and it's normally when the clubs like us in our position tend to start ramping things up.

I wasn’t even talking about clubs agreeing fees btw. But yeah, clubs famously have a half price sale day don’t they. Just wait for that. Simple.

It’s up there with your ‘Southall was crap’ thread.
No they don't, but as someone else mentioned previously

Selling clubs, and players are looking out for there best interest and best possible deal or best possible club. We unfortunately aren't first choice to the players we are targeting, or in Grealish's case, City are happy to see if someone might come in with a cash money offer.

If we go to City and say 'alright City, can we take Grealish on loan and we will give you £10m'
They will reply 'maybe, but we will see if someone else will come in with a better offer as he cost us a lot of money'

Yeah but it's not like 400 people are looking at Fofana alone, you'd think? Cuz that's how it's being made out - like we've sent the entire scouting team and management to look at Fofana alone, all together, in a tent outside the training ground like a big circus.

And no we've not had a definite no from them, just that the price isn't right and that they want to play in Europe, which is just about a full on rejection anyway.

I get trying to spin it positively cuz we've gotten a few players, but we're still operating at a snail's pace until the dying moment. So the more things have changed, the more they've stayed the same in that regard, and we'll start poorly, for about the 20th time in the last 25 years.
I'm not sure you understood what I said tbh

You could be looking at 20 players but have priorities, so nobody can move until there are definite refusals.
'The price isn't right' was my point: Offer the clubs what they want when its a few mil difference and get the player to commit to a yes or a no. Wanting Europe is not a 'full on rejection', its putting the feelers out to clubs that are in Europe.
If none come knocking and Everton have met the asking price and given a deadline on a decision they may change their tune. As it stands we can't blame anyone other than ourselves for trying to lowball clubs when they aren't biting.

The disturbing thing for me is we've added two players that won't likely feature in any PL fixture, though perhaps our one match annual Carabao Cup first round exit and Alcaraz was already embedded. That means Barry came in to replace DCL.

Moyes was bang on the money with needing 8 or more. Of the 8 we need, 5 starters better than what we have in 18 days.

If you're blindly trusting your gut instinct on "yeah but we're not sure", then why are we not trusting the 1000 reports about the situation?

And, again, we can try to complete more than 1 deal at a time, of this I assure you, based on literally every other team doing it in the recent history of the game.
Aren't the majority of 'reports' pretty much saying that whilst Fofana & Luiz are hanging fire and exploring their options, neither have actually flat out said 'no' to us yet? they can wait for clubs in the Champions League as that is of course their prerogative, but if there was even a chance that they'd be open to a move to Everton should we not at least be keeping tabs on that?

I agree with your second point - and nothing to really suggest that that club wouldn't have multiple plates spinning at this point either way?

So in your example a priority is a player who we'll have to wait until the last few days of the transfer window or until someone else comes in with an offer, instead of identifying and going for other targets who might actually, you know, agree to join us and play for us in the first 5 games and prepare during summer?

Is it me? I must not be explaining it properly
Priority means we want to spend the available money on them
I am saying, a few times now I thought, that we need to find out for sure if they are coming, by paying the clubs asking price instead of haggling for a few mil. Then we put it on the player to decide, and if a definite no, move onto the next priority, not wait until the end of the window and not wait until some other club comes in.
The exact opposite
