2024/25 David Moyes

Before Moyes came back there were rumours that he was insisting he had control of incomings and outgoings rather than utilising a DOF.

It was one of his non negotiable’s for returning apparently.
I doubt it because they’ve employed a big enough recruitment team across the board. He will have an input but once again it looks like other people are having final say.

Oh yeah I agree on the messaging. If Dyche had said even half of this stuff then a GOT pitch fork mob would already be formed.

What I want to see is the team that finished last season starting this one in the same vein, not the usual Everton story of players being injured, players taking ages to reach any kind of form or fitness, and ultimately players only showing any form in a season once all pressure has been removed from them whatsoever.

There’s simply no good reason why Pickford, the first choice back 4, Garner Gueye Alcaraz, Ndiaye Barry McNeil, can’t start the season as a very competitive unit.

If we start with 5 at the back, players out of position, and half the back line missing with injury and throw away a handful of games I won’t be pleased and no amount of excuses about transfers will wash with that.

Moyes has a strong hand to play at the club because he's a tried and tested and relatively 'successful' manager here. He's right to point out lack of transfer activity because what we have wont get us even the same performances as last half of last season. But he needs to maintain in public that the club is ambitious and that players will be bought because we offer a lot. There's a balance to that act. However, Moyes' primary motive is always to position himself as having a miracle to perform, and that seriously carries the threat to it of destabilising us to a point where this management team assembled to buy players just cant get a player to commit.

Good point about the stadium. We don't know how long it's going to take to adjust to playing there and whether it gives the opposition a boost. Goodison was always one of those places that got you points.

Inevitably the move will cost us a handful of points that Goodison secured us each campaign.

Moyes is a manager who can get points on the table though and we 'should' be alright.

I'd like to see him moved on after this season though and a manager with more ideas of how to play with possession, power and pace brought in.

Moyes won't want the stress of this in his sixties, you can see it in him already and we haven't kicked a ball. I think he'll decide to call it a day in the next two years and The Friedkins should already be planning ahead for this, given his age.

We look very undercooked. Something I feared weeks ago. Pre season, half a squad. Seemingly many avoided being too concerned.

Now everyone well neatly everyone getting panicky. It's seeping through now. Moyes and one or two senior players making comments. Beginning to look a bit of a shambles.
Some was saying what a great “opportunity” losing half a squad was. Many under appreciated the downside risks. Especially as the new lot are a totally unproven quantity.

I have to agree with the need for him to maintain a positive outlook.
Last season he came in, said 'not having this relegation nonsense, we're looking up, Everton is better than this' and the players responded.
I understand he wants action on the signings but saying things like 'we aren't ready for the PL' will ensure we aren't and the players will respond accordingly.
We all know we need numbers, and good ones and he must be frustrated but like you say, it's a balancing act.

What good is it him promising us the world only for the useless recruitment team to fail to deliver it?

I think he'll really want to win a trophy with us before he calls it a day but we will definitely be his last club job
