Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I still think there should have been more overlap between the handover of the old system to the new .
Some of the recruitment team are still not officially able to operate yet .
It needs to be remembered the situation approaching the end of last season was widely regarded as an opportunity for a reset , rather than a major obstacle to progress.
Viewing from the outside , as we are , it currently appears not enough preparation was done prior to the window opening .
It may be an erroneous perception but it is clear things are not proceeding as quickly the manager would like .
Yeah, I mean who knows?

I find it very hard to draw any meaningful conclusions from the limited perspective we have, which you rightly highlight.

I think all we've got is blind hope that we're able to assemble a decent squad by the time the window closes. There's far too much to do to have it sorted by the Leeds game, I think - but I'm still relatively confident we'll plug the gaps we need to. Just perhaps not with the quality we'd ultimately like.

The key word is bolded. Having a good run of form just cannot be assumed to continue over an entire season, it's daft saying oh if we replicate the form shown over this set period for an entire season then we'll get X points because that's not how it works, and virtually every club in the league could do the exact same thing.
You’re right and at no point did I say I expect the form of European places to continue

I was replying to someone saying we’d be in a relegation battle, which I don’t believe we would be with this squad

Of course we need to improve, nobody is saying we don’t

100% every manager and fan knows this, unfortunately, we are in a situation where we cannot pay 17mil for players that are either a gamble or at least not ready to start in the prem(look at Chermiti). Our squad size and financial restraints mean we need to have players that are ready.

I imagine the plan is to buy ready to go players, get a foothold in the top half of the table, enjoy the exrta financial benefits that bring and THEN we can start on that model. Until then it is just not very viable.
We literally just did it with Anzou.

But Harrison wasn't a bum on the bench. I literally just told you he played in all but 4 of our league games. Just because you didn't rate him, it doesn't make him an unimportant player in the real world.
Yes to this..... then the 2nd choice then has to replace them in the starting 11 and the 3rd choice is then on the bench.

If we deem Doucoure and Harrison (main stays) as not good enough then it is just trouble when we get to 2nd/3rd choice.

So we have not replaced nor is the team as strong as it was at the end of the season.

Your bedsheets must smell like sunshine compared to most here.

To be fair, I understand more the people losing their composure than I do the people claiming we've got this/acting like Man Utd fans were with INEOS.

I've no confidence in Everton's new recruitment team until they give a reason to be.

So far, they've failed to bring in players to give adequate pre-season.

Let's see where we are come the first game of the season.

He contributed absolutely nothing all season long.
You'd have to assume the manager thought he was contributing something, because he kept picking him. I'm with you in theory like, i'm not saying no you're an idiot if you can't see what Harrison brought to the team, but the fact is the bloke who picked the team evidently thought he was at least relatively useful to us, and replacing him with somebody else who he feels that way about is therefore pretty important.

It always looks that way because we all assume we have only sniffed around Barry, Kubo, Fofana and about 4 other players we have been linked with. It’s just not true in reality.

Particularly with modern connectivity, calls, meetings and messages can be had all day every day.

The new board and recruitment team have a lot to do to prove themselves, and I am very surprised we haven’t signed more.

But I think it’s very unrealistic to think Angus/whoever makes calls to agents/clubs about 3 RB’s by 9am then sits doing nothing til he’s had a response a few days later. And only when we have been shafted by all three of them 2 weeks later does he go “right team, let’s move on to RW, although more than happy to fill this slot with someone who has only ever played LW.”

Easy to assume we are still the worst at everything, but these people will be at it all day every day, we just only hear about a tiny % of the players they will have sounded out when someone leaks it to raise interest elsewhere.

Moyes knows. We want players much better than the ones we have to improve the squad, but those players want to go to squads/teams already better than ours. It’s tough. Nightmare really unless one of the youngsters we buy turns out to be a world beater very quickly. Thats what teams outside the protected 6 have to hope for these days, or massively overpay for a experienced player on a downward trajectory, but still better than Garner.
That is why I said is probably wrong as I don't think what I am proposing is anything revolutionary. It just seems like we are single track from the outside. What I do think is true is that we have to move on faster from top targets if they are stringing us along. There are certainly players that we know we could get and improve us. At some point you have to make the move, a bird in the hand... as the saying goes.

"Oh, never mind. Use an U11 player, same effect ."

I suspect that a large proportion of the rest of our transfers are going to rely on Champions League sides (in England or elsewhere) settling their squads. Which means that they can then start to release players who might not get a regular game on loan or transfer (Aznou is an example because Bayern had settled players in positions in front of him).

So you have the experienced players on the outside looking in (Grealish or Trossard, for example) or young players who have more experienced players in front of them (Doak or McAtee, for example).

I would be surprised if we are not that far off agreeing with some squad players (like Soucek or Brownhill or Maitland-Niles) but are waiting to see what we might get further up the ladder.
