Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

You’re funny

My first sentence says the fact that we got enough points under Moyes to have finished in a European position, we all saw those articles last season with form tables since Moyes took over and we did very well

I at no point said I was happy with this squad or that I think this squad would get into Europe

But I don’t know mate, keep jumping to conclusions and making stuff up if it makes you happy?
Maybe you should consider writing messages that make sense? How is what squad minus lots of players who actually played quite a lot did last season have anything to do with this one? We had 2-3 players not at the club anymore starting in each of last matches last season and club has signed no-one to play in those positions.

Teams have good and bad spells. We happened to have a good spell during those matches. We also had a bad run where we won 1 in 10. 18 matches is not a good way to judge a squad. The same squad hadn't won in six and only one win in 12.

This was Glasner yesterday. Very similar to Moyes. Think a massive part of the issue is managers wanting players (perfectly reasonably) a few weeks before the season but that simply isn’t the deadline. Only the actual deadline forces action not one in the minds of one of the three negotiating parties. Hence why we, they, most of the league are stalling.

This is pretty normal stuff across the board and the only solution is to bring forward the transfer deadline but they tried that and reverted back.
The deadline should be before the major leagues first games. The 31st August/1st September deadline makes no sense. Every major league has started by then.

That's not really true though is it? Like we might sit here and say Harrison was rubbish so he doesn't count but he played in 34 of our 38 games, we can't just say ah we don't need to replace him because I didn't like him.

I never said we don't need to replace people? We clearly need numbers. I'm just saying some of those "loads of outgoings" contributed nothing and are just a bum on the bench to replace since when they entered the pitch did sweet FA.

I have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. But it appears from the outside to very much work linearly by position. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a top 2 or 3 by role that we would be happy with and would improve us. We work across all of the tier 1 prospects by position concurrently and communicate a hard date to get them in and we are also talking to others. Then you have tier 2 if the player and the club say no. It seems like we work on a target and if they say no we seem start fresh on the next target.

I think the Tete situation kind of reinforces that impression. We were working hard on a RB clearly to be a starter and now nothing for a month until ANM.

I'm sure I am probably wrong but it sure does feel this way from the outside.
It always looks that way because we all assume we have only sniffed around Barry, Kubo, Fofana and about 4 other players we have been linked with. It’s just not true in reality.

Particularly with modern connectivity, calls, meetings and messages can be had all day every day.

The new board and recruitment team have a lot to do to prove themselves, and I am very surprised we haven’t signed more.

But I think it’s very unrealistic to think Angus/whoever makes calls to agents/clubs about 3 RB’s by 9am then sits doing nothing til he’s had a response a few days later. And only when we have been shafted by all three of them 2 weeks later does he go “right team, let’s move on to RW, although more than happy to fill this slot with someone who has only ever played LW.”

Easy to assume we are still the worst at everything, but these people will be at it all day every day, we just only hear about a tiny % of the players they will have sounded out when someone leaks it to raise interest elsewhere.

Moyes knows. We want players much better than the ones we have to improve the squad, but those players want to go to squads/teams already better than ours. It’s tough. Nightmare really unless one of the youngsters we buy turns out to be a world beater very quickly. Thats what teams outside the protected 6 have to hope for these days, or massively overpay for a experienced player on a downward trajectory, but still better than Garner.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Brownhill sign this week / next and possibly Maitland-Niles.

Ideally a decision on Douglas Luiz needs to be made asap, he's the player I would want in before the Leeds game.

They'll have a few lined up and awaiting a response.

The hope is the players down the list dont go elsewhere.

So say Douglas Luiz, if he doesn't fancy it, is Hayden Hackney 2nd, or 3rd? Suspect he'll be sitting on his hands on that Ipswich offer, like Fofana/Luiz etc will with us.

Conceicao jibbed us, Kubo too expensive, so we're trying for Fofana. If not him, maybe we go down to Tom Fellows, or Ben Doak etc.

Our arses are twitching just because we need so many, but at least unlike previous summers, we're able to spend now.
Your bedsheets must smell like sunshine compared to most here.

And let's not forget that two managers decided he was the best player to play that position last season. So we currently have worse options than him the club.

Unless of course you are one of those guys who thinks they are a better judge of player than actual managers.

But Harrison wasn't a bum on the bench. I literally just told you he played in all but 4 of our league games. Just because you didn't rate him, it doesn't make him an unimportant player in the real world.

This is exactly my concern, Luiz would be great, would love him. But we are a fall back for him and more expensive, If Hackney is second or third choice, I would have thought prior to US trip we said to Luiz we are moving on and signing Hackney.... I fear we hold out hope for top choice, get spurned and then choice 1c, or 2a (next tier) are all gone...

Not sure why we paid money for a reserve keeper personally. There were plenty of experienced keepers on free transfers this summer. Would rather have given the money as a signing on bonus to a big player to get the ball rolling.
I think we'll sign one of them too. I just don't see Tyrer getting the nod for first team squad.

Yes, considering this was presumably an attempt to leverage some pressure on the CEO and owners, he could have done that without confirming we are a tough sell for players.

That said, in a press conference environment, and probably feeling generally stressed anyway, it can be hard to discipline your every utterance to that extent. He is human like us all.
Alternate view, he may not have a direct line to TFG and need to go through the hierarchy.

This may be Moyes way of saying we need to start doing deals NOW with the funding you've provided. Hoping that Friedkin will get on the blower to Kinnear and say ok get several deals over the line even if it takes that bit extra
