Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I honestly don’t get all the hate towards the new board or transfer structure. It’s like you’ve all had your head buried in the sand for the last 6 years. You do all remember how awful we've been right? Think about how much of a chore it’s been watching us since Benitez, think about were we’ve finished, our best players leaving and the lack of young talent we’ve brought through and moved on as a guide to potential new young signings of what can happen with us. We finished 13th last year and people are going on like players would be clambering over themselves to come to us like there isn’t 9 other teams in the league who have some sort of European competition. A new stadium is nice but players are there about 4 hours a week, it’s not as big a sell as people think it is. Maybe to fans but to players it’s a nice to have not one of the main factors in deciding where you play. If you were offered a job at a crap company that had a boss office would it sway you? Give your heads a wobble, did you think the transfer window was going to open and players would be Odemwingieing outside the ground just waiting to sign for us

My biggest concern is that we’re still being too cocky in regards to the targets we’re trying to attract. Battling for players wanting the CL right now or enormous wage pedigree players like Douglas Luiz & Grealish are targets you go for when you’ve just finished 8th and 9th a couple of times.

We are a project and thus should be sticking with project players and some known quantities we can actually get.

“It’s too hard” isn’t an excuse. If I’m consistently failing at my job I don’t get to go into the disciplinary meeting and say “it’s just too damn hard though 🥺

5 in please.
Consistently failing? It's been a month and we have multiple signings. I'm just pointing out why it's not just as easy as going 5 in now because MikeH72 says so.

We haven’t improved the starting XI at all from last season. We have no right wingers at the club, we have one midfielder who’s up to the required standard and he’s 36. We have no right backs fit for purpose and are having to shoehorn a centre back in there (well he’s actually needed at CB because our other two are both injured).

We need 5 more players.

Ah yes, let's just stay in our plucky little lane and not push for quality first team starters that improve us. How silly of us to even try. Let's just get back on the phone to Jack Harrison and aim for 17th place.

The main take I get from the interview is that good players aren't sure about joining us. We are aiming high and falling short because of our recent history. That's fine, but we do now need to get some players in. The recruitment team are dressing it up and the manager is showing frustration. That's perfectly normal and doesn't show a disconnect. The corporate side always talk a good game.

No mate, if we wait till late enough in the window then all our top targets will suddenly have their mind zapped with the laser pen from Men in Black and want to join us.

Fair play to Fofana thinking he’s good enough for the Champions League. But let’s get it right, he’s never played 1 minute in that competition so it’s not like he’d be giving something up coming to us.

Edit: and if none of those clubs come n for him and we’ve moved on to other targets, he could find himself playing 2nd division French football.

One has to question Nick Hammond’s role in this transfer window debacle.

…the debacle was having so many players out of contract at the same time. Some of us were warning about zero continuity planning way in advance.
This regime has a mess to fix and it’ll take quite a few windows to do so.

The squad is threadbare but the team for Leeds on 18th Aug should be as least as good as the one that finished the season so effectively under Moyes. The window closes on 1st September and I expect we’ll be doing plenty of business up to that date.

So far, so good.
