I admired Assou-Ekotto a great deal after he said all of that. It's verboten for players to talk like that, for some reason, despite the fact that everyone except the most moronic of fans know that it's true. The idea that some lad who grew up in Denmark/Cameroon/South Korea/wherever and signs for a club in his mid twenties that he had no prior attachment or affiliation with should have some deep emotional attachment to this new club and demonstrate their loyalty on the daily is patently absurd. And yet we see the pages of this forum littered with that very sentiment, often by the same posters who show zero loyalty to those exact same players when they lose their form or decide to run down their contracts. Absolute hypocrites. Good for Benoit.
