I distinctly remember as I got the the end of Primary school (about 81-82) our school watered down the traditional old hymns like those already mentioned and we started sing more modern less fire and brimstone ones.
I recall - Water of life, Everybody's building, Travel on and Somebody greater proper cheesy and less rousing.

Think they have, but it's strange to think all these later I still know the lyrics to most, but ask me to solve a quadratic equation that's a different matter.
