This is the reason we’re not bidding - City have changed the goal posts since the U21 Euros - can’t see us paying anything near that when we’ve got so many gaps to fill in our squad.

Then let them bid, City seem to want a similar fee to what they received for Palmer (£42m) there is levels of talent between Palmer and McAtee and JM is in his last year of contract, I don't see any club paying that its nuts imo. Of the City youngsters in and around the first team he is easily the weakest.

I think we need to be competitive for these signings, we could have had the same discussion around MGW and whether he was worth 35 mill a couple of seasons ago, hes worth double that now.

Elliot Anderson wasnt worth 35 mill last summer, i think hes worth more now.

You could say Wharton wasnt worth the guts of 20 mill when Palace signed him.

We either need to be competitive for some of these players and back our judgement with investment or we stay were we are.

I think it's more about good old Everton sentimentality, keep him registered as a player and wrap him in cotton wool so he can lead us out against Brighton in our first prem game at the new stadium.

Yeah not for me this one, don't think he is worth anywhere even close to the figures being quoted.
