Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Disagree. We are so far behind other sides at the moment and the gap just gets bigger and bigger. We need to turbocharge things a bit. Signing mid-level dross and nothing else, keeps you there at best and probably actually moves you backwards. You then get stuck with players no-one else really wants- that's been our issue for years. We need to find a way of getting some actual quality into the squad.
So what you're saying is all we need is a statement signing to signal to the world that we mean business . Then that will turn the heads of other potential targets ? That's genius yet so simple, nice one 👍. Hopefully the club can see this too.

Need to be looking at the best players from the likes of the Dutch, Portuguese and even Scottish leagues. Trying for players in the French, German and Italian leagues is much more difficult.

Agreed, he is very raw. There are some building blocks there but lots of improvement needed if he ever becomes a PL starter. He is careless in possession and as you say, lacks awareness. Both are major issues in a central midfield player. First should be easier to coach out of him but improving the latter is tricky. Hopefully he could go out on loan for a season. That should show if he will ever make it at this level.
A quick look at his numbers and you can see his passing/possession needs to improve dramatically if he is going to succeed.

He had a decent run of 5-6 games coinciding with us being absolutely dreadful, and every other time looked lost positionally.

And it's not rhetoric - it's watching a player who has no sense of awareness defensively and is not focused on what's around him. Soon as mangala came on we looked way better as we did when garner came in for mangala when he got crocked.

We were absolutely dreadful till moyes came in so how can his 5-6 games coincide with us being dreadful?

What happened was he was dead on his feet at Bournemouth, the manager should of subbed the lad off. He didnt and it feels like he somehow ended up taking the flack for that loss off the manager and the fans.

Then there was a load of talk about him loosing the ball too much even thought per game statistically he looses the ball less then ganer and gana.

The reason why we looked more solid (I use solid because we didnt look better) when mangala came in was because he was a 6 who just sat in the hole and acted like a metronome when he had the ball and he plugged up the gaps gana left when we were off the ball.

Moyes comments to me read two ways. He says we’ve lost out on players….fine we know Delap etc are going to move on to clubs like cheksea

Then he says “players saying no just now” ie they’ll let us know at the end of the window and we’re not their first choice.

It’s such a difficult market where even the horse punchers with CL footy are getting turned down. Fofana for example pied off Forest. It’s not just us. However due to previous regimes, our need is so much greater

I mean, I can't tell if you are being sarcastic mate, but yes that is the key. Newcastle have mostly signed safe PL players for hefty fees, but still managed to get Guimarães, Isak and Tonali when the club wasn't all that.

We will be rejected by loads of good players, but we need to get a couple in. Ones that would consider coming are out there. We cannot just settle for average players. Fine to get some in, of course, given our lack of numbers. But we need a couple of players that signal intent moving forward.

I would rather Aznou board a plane as soon as possible following his medical and then travel over to Chicago, where we can do an official announcement of his signing.

He should have just flown straight to Chicago from wherever he was and done the medical over there.

Just a difference of opinion mate, and yeah Dyche messed up badly when he refused to do subs that game and the midfield locked dead on its feet, problem became I think it exposed a weakness in him that he can drift off on concentration/focus highlighted when he was tired.

Hope I'm wrong - won't be the first or last - just my feeling about him.

I can't remember the last time we did great business right at the end of the window. You are probably going back to Lukaku and Gareth Barry and they were loans.

Waiting till the end of the window is an extremely poor strategy and the chances of it working are extremely small.

Don’t think we are purposefully waiting to the end of the window mate, but players are waiting for what they perceive as better deals.

Take Fofana, he may come - but he might also end up at say Chelsea of Bayern. If the three possibilities are on the table for him now and Bayern and Chelsea are saying we need to wait a few more weeks - then the player isn’t deciding to come here in the third week in July. That’s what’s going on in multiple sections but the sound of it.

Your choice is you can stick the plan, hold the tension, don’t cave or you cave and go for, for want a better word Lindstrom down on his luck with potential fixer upper profile - we can get loads of them straight away.

Our transfer window open in August, like it or not, we are at whims, of market forces even if we have the best recruitment team in the world.
