Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Big fat lol at coming at me with "you don't know that" and then making up a bunch of scenarios that you have no idea whether the club actually did or not. If you think Moyes is just sat spinning round on a chair in his office waiting for some Greek right back to call him back then you're a lost cause.
Yeah yeah. They must have contacted hundreds of players and haven't realised the fax machine isn't working. That's probably why we are still six players short according to Moyes.

Do get the feeling it's a case of IF one comes in then it could open the floodgates as well, nobody wants to be the first to sign up until they see others do so.

Why Forfana was a good target if you got him it would resonate with other players and agents, also why Mcatee would be similarly a great buy, can see the logic the question only time will answer ofc is will they get that first one in.
Personally I don't think we've a chance at Fofana or Kubo. But I'm clinging to probably naive hope on Mcatee, as he's homegrown, apparently doesn't want to go abroad and there's not that many PL options. So far I've only seen us and forest linked. But whether MGW staying bring spurs into the fold. Only other option are Villa and Newcastle and they seem to be looking at different positions 🤷🏻‍♂️

Moyes interview with The Athletic on Friday

Don’t think any of that is surprising few of us have been saying this for a while, we’re a trust project, we aren’t attractive to these players until later in the window if they haven’t already moved. I hope we stick to the plan though, it will bare fruit.

"Lesser" players can also be effective if they are correct type for the system. That's how you can differentiate because every of the over 100 top clubs in Europe have the same data tools these days. They all know who Fofana is. One way of finding good value would be to find players that are good for _your_ team but not necessarily for every team. Another way would be to do what Thelwell did well, find players who had a down year, like Ndiaye. Moyes did this during his first stint as well, Arteta being the most obvious example.

It's definitely what we need to do. Unfortunately for every Ndiaye, it's likely you'll find a Lindstrom. If we can't get the players we want then the ones we bring in have to be on short contracts. Filling the squad with poor players on long term deals can't be something we do again.

I can't remember the last time we did great business right at the end of the window. You are probably going back to Lukaku and Gareth Barry and they were loans.

Waiting till the end of the window is an extremely poor strategy and the chances of it working are extremely small.

Becoming a shambles this like. New dawn looking like same old incompetence
People need to get away from the idea that just because things don't work out exactly the way we want it is evidence of incompetence. The transfer market is competitive, selling clubs and the players targeted all have their own set of interests and there is nothing we can do to force the issue other than paying over the odds. We aren't the prettiest girl at the dance so no matter how good our moves are we need a bit of luck to succeed. We might have been incompetent but no one has any evidence that's the case.

Yeah Mcatee I've said since January would end up here. Still firmly believe so too.
Kubo I honestly don't know about. Forfana looks like we were prompted to big, is that due to agent games or genuine interest from the players camp though is another matter.

I'd just go fully out for Mcatee at this point, pay what city are asking and offer the lad a central role in the side with a good wage deal. Of the lot he seems the one whose primary concern is to be playing games as a focal point of a team, so give the lad it.

I don’t think that article tells us anything we didn’t know.

Bigger name players were linked with whether that’s McAtee, Grealish, Luiz, Fofana etc are going to take their time to assess options and yes possibly hope that other options become available.

Doesn’t mean they will. You haven’t missed out on a target until they go somewhere else and few apparent targets have. There are only so many clubs with the budget to go round chasing these targets and for the first time in a few years we are one of them.

It’s mad now that a lad with one decent season at Lyon and a kid from City who can’t make the first team are apparently such top players that they’re swerving guaranteed first team football.

People might have had a point about Moyes targeting unrealistic players back in the day when it was Toure Arshavin Hazard Riquelme etc. he was going after but really Fofana and Mcatee do not seem to be that crazy as targets.

Waiting until the end of the window isn't out strategy. It's just the way things have turned out because the players we want aren't available yet. Are you happy for us to get our 20th target for every position for the sake of a few weeks and not even try to get our top targets?

Hahahaha yeah. Got told this last week.

Aznou is the only serious link that appears to have any legs. Who else are you predicting comes in this week? Fofana who’s basically laughed us out of the room, and then who?
Don’t be coming to me for your fix of spurious rumours, mate. I reckon Fofana gets done, personally. I fancy a trademark Moyes Championship youngster and all - The lad from Boro, maybe.

That’s your lot, though. I’m cutting you off. Cold turkey until you can admit to the monster you’ve become.

We aren't waiting until the end of the window, though- we are actively trying, very hard it seems, to sign players. The issue is, convincing them to come. People would moan if we signed average players but moan also when we try to sign quality players.
