We appear to be going after ‘really good players’ who are holding out for better. I’m quite convinced that this is not the best transfer strategy given where we have been as a club. It will be interesting if rumours are to be believed, who of Luiz and Fofana joins, I doubt either but we shall see. Cut your cloth accordingly in terms of your targets so we get them in early and they improve us. I do wonder how much impact Moyes is having given the newly created recruitment team and how much of it is being driven by the fact he only had two years here.

We all know when the season starts mate.

The fixtures and schedule came out weeks ago. We knew we would be losing players. It’s the clubs job to make sure they are prepared for the start of the season.

You actually don’t have to run things right to the end of the transfer window, that’s a choice, and in our position not a good choice to make as demonstrated last night by the squad on view.

Hopefully some players in this week to improve the quality and numbers.

Rumoured a while back is we’re getting Zeki Celik on loan - surely he’s better than Coufal or Patterson

From that 20 you have:

Coleman - Probably an option for 5-10 games at most this season.

Tyrer - not a PL ready player and there is question if he ever will be. Needs a loan to a championship club.

Armstrong - real prospect but a loan would serve him better long yerm

Chermiti - hardly played any senior football and same as Armstrong would ideally be on loan to get him starting minutes.

Tim - pretty much the same as Chermiti although he has played a bit more. Needs a solid run of games to get his body used to playing week in week out.

That means we have effectively have 15 players in the squad that you could class as reliable or PL ready. Even then in that 15 you have:

Patterson - Serious debates about his long term future and if it belongs at PL level.

Gana and Ndiaye - Off to AFCON next year for a decent chunk of time.

Sadly that puts us down to 12 players which is just terrifying. I get that the quality players with decent fees will take time. However, I think it’s unacceptable not to have got 1,2 or even 3 free transfers in before we went to the US.

Kinnear talked about how important the US market will be for us so why not at least get us a squad that even looks remotely like a team worth supporting.

Why are we bothering with preseason fitness and games to work on sharpness and tactics then if it’s three weeks off?

If the new signings can just rock up to the game on day one at peak fitness and know what everyone is doing, why can’t the rest of the squad?

People are saying it’s awful and the club have completely failed because we havnt bought a load of players 3 weeks before the season starts. Player are training at their clubs and playing matches at their clubs, it’s not like Everton are the only team in preseason training.

Preseason is purely about fitness, results are irrelevant, if we get to Leeds and have no extra players then yeah I’ll be annoyed but that’s still 3 weeks away and not worth stressing over till then

Would it be tin pot of me to say that we're aiming too high? I would have got trying to sign high calibre players a month ago when we had more time to work down the list

I don't fathom the new narrative that Moyes is flustered and frustrated with the recruitment, the previous day he seemed pretty confident so in the span of one day he's panicked? He knew his squad numbers was lacking before yesterday. Also the whole Moyes is being let down by the recruitment team notion doesn't make sense as going by history and recent comments he seems to be heavily engaged in the process himself.

Absolutely clueless. Every single agent in the world is going to say yes, he'd love to join make a bid and let's agree the wage packet. What is the downside from their perspective to doing so? Either the player says yes and then all good for the agent's fee or the player says no and our bid might flush out other bidders/get them to improve their offer. Have you never been involved in an auction process before? You want as many interested parties as possible to stay in for as long as possible. Even the player could lead us down the garden path to keep his options open. Newsflash for you, human being mislead each other and aren't always honest.

The recruitment team will have heard what Moyes said last night. If that doesn't create much more urgency then I'm not sure what will. Everything has seemed a bit disorganised so far.

Its on Moyes innit.
