Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Mate, we are a stepping stone for the majority of footballers. We are not the peak of the mountain for anybody.

If you think this is just us I'll direct you to look at the Geordies who have Saudi millions and CL footy and are watching their striker flash ankles at the RS.

We are about 2-3 tiers below even that.
Same is not a bad thing is also why players could come here as see it as a good club to progress in. Is about getting these players in early on smaller wages then over time when showing promise like branthwaite. You give them an improved deal to keep them happy and protect the club . To be a top club we must get use to trading players, becuase if we dont wont ever be in a position to be near the top.

I'm under no illusions that we're a stop for some players (not all players) on their career path and I'm fine with that, so long as those players give their all when they are here

What's important besides that (if we have any ambitions of ever getting back to where we belong) is that we don't apply that rule to all players, all the time

For those like Jarrad, selling on our terms, when the time is right (and perhaps even having long term ambitions of keeping him at the club for a good 5-6 years) is a welcome change from the Moshiri era when, let's face it, we sold at the first opportunity

I think we've played it the right way with Branthwaite.

We need to be signing young and promising players who will grow into our team. Either the clubs who want them meet our valuation or we hopefully can persuade them that this is as good a place as any if those top clubs don't come in for them.

We can't be doing the 26-27 year old cast offs begging for a massive wage to even consider us.

I don't think we did sell at the first opportunity in the Moshiri era. Who would you identify in that category? Anyone we moved on was either because we didn't want them or they didn't want to stay here. The only one I can think of who I didn't want sold was Richarlison (He had earned it) and James (I hope you've already stubbed your toe today Benitez). All the rest of them were stinking the place out.
