Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Seems to be just a lot of words.. how do you change the age/profile/size of the squad at this point?
You don't think an entirely new ownership, with an entirely different model of operating will want to make changes?

It's a billion pound investment. They will want to run things their way.

But, I'll bite for the sake of discussion, we seem to have been quite structured in our contract renewals - 1/2 years, set wages. We clearly offered revised terms to our out of contract players - some didn't take it, others did.

We've signed an under 21 France International based upon a high potential - assuming he increases in value over the contract length. We've resigned our most valuable asset in Branthwaite and retained Gana who is our best CM.

We seem to be unwilling to commit to Harrison (I suspect he's being considered as a last resort).

But our targets appear to be young players with potential and players from the championship.

That's a far cry from signing 'PL proven quality' and loans.

We’ve a squad of 19 if you take out Tyrer as the 3rd choice keeper but the 19 includes Coleman who’s now a cheerleader effectively.

So, we’re at 18, meaning we need at least 6, likely 8.

Big job on for Angus & the new executive team.

Clock ticking & sheets sopping.
Chermitti, tim , Keane, Patterson, Armstrong, travers make up these numbers too remember

I think if we were to bring 4/5 players in from now (3 perm, 2 loan) this would be my personal priority: -

1. RW on a perm (Kubo would be ideal - but either way it absolutely needs to be a player who's operated predominantly on the right throughout their career.)

2. LB on a perm (Myko really needs some competition there at the very least, on top of us being extremely light there in general.)

3. CM on a perm (Could do with someone with a profile more akin to a 'playmaker'. Gana isn't going to last forever and Garner likely won't hit the heights required to be his long term successor. Iroegbunam & Armstrong still young.)

4. RB on loan (Less of a pressing issue than LB if I'm being honest. A fullback on loan who can cover on both sides to support/rotate with our current fullbacks would be ideal for this upcoming season. Coleman can't be trusted to stay fit.)

5. CAM on loan (I think with a perm RW sorted we'd start looking okay in the wide forward areas, so someone who can come in and rotate right across the front three/behind the striker for the season would balance us out nicely.)
Agreed with that but I think we actually need two Right Wingers and possibly a third backup striker because Beto has mixed spells and we just don't know how Barry will adapt so a more seasoned low risk striker would be a huge bonus.

You were suggesting they could do an ‘unprecedented restructuring of the squad’ without making signings. Which is clearly nonsense.

Doable list that would dry those sheets like a fine summers breeze (all for sub £100m)

McAtee - £30m
Kubo - £30m

Ndiaye and McNeil for left hand side Alcaraz/McAtee/McNeil for middle
Kubo/McAtee right hand side.

Douglas Luiz - loan 10m
Haydn Hackney - £20m

Right back - think Celik comes to us when Roma done their business (loan)

Left back - Aznou £5m

A few more loans to pad out squad. surely that little lot is not too outlandish and would certainly boost quality of our team?

Reckon I get any of them right?

I wonder if Moyes sees Ndiaye as someone who can play any of the three positions behind the striker. He might be looking at 5 players for the three positions. Ndiaye Alcaraz McNeil Mcatee Kubo. Then picking any 3 from the 5 with Ndiaye Mcatee Kubo probably the first choice. That could even leave one squad place open for Heath or Clarke to stay with the first team squad as the 6th option if we can’t get anyone.

Do we really want an ill disciplined, pompous, self-indulgent player who does not want to commit to us because he is waiting for a better offer.

We are better than wanting this piece of doggie doo.
I don't want him purely based on the fact I don't think we should be gibing any money too Kia Jorabchian, the guy was a massive part of the reason we nearly collapsed.

I dont think we have the squad for any competitive match right now. Even 1 or 2 injuries and we are in deep trouble.
Our team that played Newcastle was as follows
Pickford
Myko
Keane
O'Brien
Young
Gueye
Garner
Ndiaye
Alcaraz
Harrison
Beto
Bench - McNeil, DCL, Doucoure, Patterson, Virginia, Chermiti, Broja, Begovic, Welch.

We have lost Young and Harrison from the first XI - but we didn't have Branthewaite or Tawks.

Doucs, DCL and Broja are gone from the bench, but we have bought Barrie and most people would take Armstrong over Doucs.

I think you are overstating things.

We need more players but there's no need to panic. We can easily play the first 3 games with the players we have.

Shambolic is clearly far too strong a word. But I think the issue is that we need more players than all these other clubs because we had a small squad to start with and then lost around 10 first team players. If we want to move forward this year, then a decent start is really important to get away from any possible relegation trouble. And we are going to need significant improvements to the squad - both depth and quality - if we are going to have a good season. You can't get through a season with only around 13 or 14 senior outfield players

I don't think it's unfair to say we are behind where we should be at this point of July. And I reckon the club expected to be further ahead too. They need to be judged before the Leeds game because that's when it counts, not the start of September.
This I agree with, and I am not saying otherwise. But once again, we can't ignore the context of the club's situation and need for transformation.

TFG bought the club in December and took over a shambolic organisation from top to bottom. People may say it's been seven months, but let's be realistic

We have brought in a much developed backroom staff with knowledge, expertise and experience that puts the previous organisation to shame.

This has, however, took time to do and that has meant certain areas, such as contract renewals and transfers, were not taking place in early 2025.

Many transfers are organised months in advance, but we couldn't do that. Yet, we have to consider the long-term impact of having these staff in place.

Realistically, the squad is thin because we have made the conscious decision to release the likes of Doucoure, Young, Virginia, Holgate and Maupay.

I doubt you'll find many who advocate for some or all of them being kept. Dom decided to leave as well, whereas we offered him and Dukes deals.

Then there are the loans of Harrison, Lindstrøm, Mangala and Broja being severed, which again were deals that most aren't particularly fussed with.

So while we may all wish to have a much deeper squad, the reality of the situation is that we made the conscious decision to release most of them.

Adding to the squad is not as simple as having it all done before Brighton, because of a) the backroom staff change and b) we want the right players.

While starting strongly is important, personally, not wasting the precious money we have is far more important, so I want the club to buy wisely.

I am confident we will see a number of key acquisitions over the coming weeks, with the squad being in a much stronger position by September.

Next year, once we've had a full year of preparation and a healthier league position, things will be more in line with what fans may dream / hope for.

In terms of links to players, our new owners are far more sensible than our previous structure, therefore the leaking to the press has dried up.
