Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It's not the regulations, it's the revenue. If there was no PSR, the disparity still exists.
It does but teams like Newcastle, for example, could just blast their way to the top, exactly like Chelsea and Man City (two teams that were never considered elite before wealthy owners distorted the picture) did before them.

Also, how do you improve revenue when you are prevented from competing? Besides, the revenue going into City isn't real revenue, it's an accounting work around by a nation state, their sponsorship deals aren't as a result of a competitive marketplace, the bulk of their sponsors never sponsored a football club before and wouldn't do so if not for the deep ties to Abu Dhabi. So it is the revenue, but it's also the regulations.

With all this disparaging talk of signing the Longstaffs and Soucek’s of the world, I do wonder how this forum would of reacted, if it had been around in the 80’s , to the news that Everton were signing 2 washed up, injury plagued, journeymen called Andy Gray and Peter Reid.

Something about not judging books by covers I think.

We can only hope that the next Gray & Reid are just around this transfer corner

Just on Kubo travelling with Sociedad to Japan.. appears there might be something called a ‘key player clause’…this snippet on Tottenhams Son was interesting:

Tottenham would miss out on as much as 75% of their fee for playing in Seoul if Son is not part of the touring squad. It is believed the fee would be halved were he to travel but not play in the game.

Sources believe the ‘key player clause’ meant that it was virtually impossible for Tottenham to even consider selling Son before the tour to Asia and the game in South Korea

The player hording has then meant Chelsea have brought in over 800m on sales since 2020 amd City close to 600m. Staggering amounts which apart from Chelsea's dice with PSR issues last year (prior to the sale of Women's team) means those clubs have that mostly put n the kitty too to buy again.
That is nuts - we need to start buying players like this but simply cannot afford to - we can barely buy quality first teamers

As someone said the other day, Rico Lewis (they meant Nico O'Reilly) would be the one young kid they have brought through who id put £40mil down for.

Under Moyes guidance he could be top notch. But, hes going to stay there 10+ years.

Bobb will move on you'd think?

Wouldnt they both play in the 10?
Elliott would play off the right - he showed at the U21 Euros that's his position, but he's slightly hamstrung at the RS due to Salah being guaranteed that spot.

Dislike the kid, but he's a great player.

I dont actually dislike him he's just a red and acts like one. I imagine a good few former greats if ours would be similarly disliked if they grew up in this social media age

Sure, sovereign wealth funds would be able to blow out any sort of revenue model, but that doesn't apply to us or most other clubs.

And we've seen what happens when less than competent people spend their money less than wisely.

Overall, I'm not against the regulations, some people need to be saved from themselves so they don't ruin clubs. I just don't think the regulations go far enough, and removing the regulations doesn't help 90% of the clubs in England.
