Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Thinking beyond pure positional needs pace/dynamism, size/physicality and creativity/incisiveness remain issues almost all around the pitch. I am not sure we can drop significant (to us) money on any player who only addresses one of those three characteristics unless they are truly exceptional in that strength. This is why I struggle spending big £ on McAtee or even to a lesser degree Kubo (who is more nippy than fast to go with his incisiveness/creativity). I can see how Barry ticks at least two areas and it feels to me that should be a minimum for anyone we drop £25+m on.

Mcatee would be by a mile our most creative and incisive player, Kubo is fast enough and very direct. Think both add exactly the qualities we lack

The team looked good at the end of the season and needs incremental improvement. A bit more depth and quality is what is needed for a good season.

It is still mainly the major clubs making moves at the moment and a lot of the players we will be in for will be waiting to see if potentially more attractive offers come in.

The transfer window is a marathon, not a sprint.

I am closer to agreeing on Kubo than I am with McAtee given his relatively small sample size in a better team not necessarily reading across well and his obvious lack of pace. Kubo has a longer track record in a middling team that feels easier to project to me. In the right team McAtee could be excellent but I am not sold on the fit with us.

If we did Kubo and Mcatee that would be absolutely brilliant and worth the wait.

Kubo Mcatee/Alcaraz Ndiaye/McNeil

Barry/Beto

Is a very decent attack (especially if we could get another player to cover RW but Moyes may see it as any three from five players who can all cover three positions behind the striker.

We’d then just need a deep lying central midfielder to complete a first 11 in my view.

Any signings after that in full back areas could be squad players as Myko and JOB are decent starting options regardless.

Mcatee if we signed him should entirely be to play the Doucoure position. Not on the right. It's why we should be after both.

I think because we’ve been asleep at the wheel for the last few windows, people have lost touch a bit with the cost of players.

Chelsea have paid more than €30 million for a player 51 times.
West Ham, who should be below our level really, have done it 12 times. (Way more than us)

We need to start playing with the big boys again.

Ndiaye had an absolutely lethal season playing alongside Mcatee as well for Sheffield united. Currently he gets pretty much doubled up on most games

I think this to be true too. Moyes at Wham was looking at better players than Dyche ever dreamed of. The quality step up in terms of targets is part due to Moyes and part due to our financial position improving.

That's that, then. The bedwetters might want to have their pants pulled down to demonstrate ther incontinence to all and sundry, but that carry-on from City means we must move on to the next target.
English players are overpriced. An uncapped player with little PL experience and they’re asking sth like £35m.

The high McAtee price might be something to do with Morgan Gibbs-White (possibly) going to Man City. Some level of inflation on both sides to help with financial stuff? Like us with Tim, Dobbin and Villa.
