Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Better players than the likes of Harrison or Lindstrom? Of course we are. Be hard not to.

My point is that at the moment we are going after better players than the better players. But there will still be a long list of better players available to fall back on and if the time comes that we just have to take a few meh options to pad things out they will STILL be better than the departed players they replace.
I think that's a bit simplistic. I don't know, but I have a sneaky feeling that this time last year you weren't saying 'Lindstrom is the worst signing it's possible to make, there is literally nobody worse than him in world football', which would suggest that really you are fully aware that it would be possible for us to bring in someone who isn't an improvement.

People just making out like waiting til late in the window will definitely mean we end up with better quality signings than if we moved earlier is absolutely wild. Some of you have evidently never Evertoned before.

The season we survived relegation vs Crystal Palace, predominantly because we couldn't score goals and then started the following season without a striker - lumping balls up to Gordon upfront to compete with Koulibaly in the air.

Evertoned.

You think were going after better players?

How confident are you?

Weve gone from Wesley (January) to rejected by Tete this window.

The McGinn enquiry was leaked. Cant get much worse than that.

Not seeing thesd "elite players for an elite stadium"

What I am seeing is unprecedented. The inability to strengthen the 1st 11.
Wouldnt say rejected was close to getting him was only because a real push by fulham to keep him he stayed. I still want see atleast two players in for the america trip. And i fully back fans angry about the situation becuae is such a massive window for us
The bold was my biggest concern with him, but to be fair, there has been an element of it being his last rodeo.

I don't think he'll wants to go into a new season with a banana in a gun fight.
Same think will want a core of a squad to use and will still have some gaps this season. But i am still positive we will be alot stronger than we have for the last few seasons.

if we don’t sign any players and the likes of Branthwaite and Ndiaye get injured then yeah we have a good chance of relegation

theres no obvious candidates outside the bottom 3, we can easily get sucked into that if we don’t bolster the squad

Both got injured last season and we weren't relegated.

Doesn't mean anything but I'll caveat this with these are new owners, I'll judge them on a first summer not first three weeks of the window (psr reset) only evidence we have us what they do and looking at first summer with Roma as a guide, where they certainly spent a lot - especially so for the Italian league.

One thing I will add is if we are gonna spend big which I believe we will do, it's in our interest to not overpay early in order to get a body in as that just sets the bar high for every further negotiation.

Both negotiating down the Alcaraz deal and doing the same for Barry rather than just paying the buyout - long term will ensure clubs don't take the piss in negotiations.

I can see us doing similar with both Luiz and Mcatee in fact - works as long as we have some the clubs intentions well enough to the player - which we seem to have done with Barry
I really don't think these things happened. As far as i'm aware we just triggered the option in the Alcaraz deal, for the set amount already agreed in January. Barry had a release clause but there's been nothing whatsoever to suggest Villarreal were ever seriously asking anyone to pay it. I don't say those things to criticise or moan, i'm just saying let's not create this narrative that we're being real hard negotiators now based on nothing.

Interesting point. This is what may well happen. It probably means more frayed nerves and delays if and when we have to move down our list of options and preferences. There is also a risk the players in question may not like being a backup and/or been kept hanging. But I guess if you're making a new / fresh approach not so much.

For me it's always been about the quality of the fallback options knowing that we will not be a draw for at least some of our preferred targets.

If that's how it's turning out in reality then about now is the time to start making contact for those players. It doesn't take long to figure out where you stand with the likes of Luiz, and whilst he is a decent player, it's not as if he makes an earth-shattering signing.

You are massively overrating Wesley Zat, he is ok but nothing more and if you actually believe that Villa are going to just hand over their captain too us then more fool you tbh, proper clickbait nonsense that was.

Think it's completely dead on all fronts really.....

Only real links were Luiz and Mcatee.... both seem to be waiting on / wanting other offers, and can you blame them?

Then the other one it seems everyone is pinning their hopes on is loose links to Kubo and waiting for him to come back off tour in a weeks time. Expect we haven't even discussed anything with him or are still preparing a bid.

When he turns round and says everton who.... then we are in trouble, as there will be 0 back-up.
Kubo knows who Everton are, just like Ancelotti does.

We are as well known as Luke erm..
