Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

The likes of McAtee being £35 million with a buy back clause or Luiz on loan being reticent to come aren’t the types of players we should be going for. Same as Grealish, massive wages and wrong side of 30

Players have to want to come, the terms need to be right. We need to uncover the next versions of Luiz etc

Look at Gibbs-White, a properly crap release clause that probably to entice him to sign in the first place, now they have to rebuild their midfield and pay a big sell on to Wolves.

I don’t really get this argument about gibbs white to be honest. He’s given them 3 good years, helping them consolidate in the league and qualify for Europe, now they’re selling him for a 33% profit. Obviously I’m sure they’d rather they didn’t have to sell him but you’d take that return on a deal any day of the week.

I don't mind buy back or release clauses if they're going to be worth having i.e at least double the money you're paying for a player. Otherwise you're getting a raw deal.

Another Man U waster. How much wasted money have we lashed at them over

Didn’t Barca have one for Geri? Can’t remember if they took the option or not.

Sometimes it’s a compromise we have to make to get the deal done

It's a difficult one. Just had a ook and Wolves sell on ifor MGW s 10% of profit made so not a big amount this time around.

We need to find those modern day Arteta, Pienaar and Cahill types amd then pick up Baines type signings that will not break the bank but still give us years of value.....at least for the next window or two should be how we approach.

How much legs the Kubo link has/who we are competing with remains to be seen. One signing like this or similar that makes most of the fanbase nod in agreement would be great and then allow for several clever signings/opportunistic ones to follow.

However is that sit up and take note signing out of our reach this window at least, due to those higher tier players saying 'No' ?

It’s an extension of that weird notion that players should be honoured to play for Everton and Everton only, and never have ambitions beyond us.

The reality is that, if signings work out as we want them to, we’ll almost always be a stepping stone to bigger things. Preemptively ensuring an acceptable amount of profit is pretty sensible IMO.

Yep Gerry went back to Barca for 12m Euro.

Historically the loan to buy served us reasonably well.

We may as fans not want buyback clauses as feel it undermines our current yet still lower reputation by PL standards, or even to promote ourselves as a stepping stone for potential players, which has been suggested on this thread previously l.

I think we have to use every trick in the book to get the deals done.

Don't get me wrong I love the fact certain players stay with their clubs through thick and thin. However, I think for the better and more established players, loyalty mostly only lasts until their next opportunity for a better deal or an increase in status with another club. We can't be too precious in thinking well what if they only stay for a year, 2 at most? So be it if that's the case for several years to come. Got to them in now regardless.

We had 1 season of Lineker, not much more from Kanchelskis and several very good years from Lukaku. Game changing players thdt I never once regretted us signing after the fact. We had them, they did extremely well for us, they moved on.

So nobody wants to join us? That’s the excuse?

Seems to be the underlying reason, not an excuse.

Not surprising either. We're at the bottom of a hill which is getting steeper year on year. However, for the first time in a decade we have a clear path. It will take time and at the moment we're not an attractive proposition for players coming from or looking to get into European competition - or to win something.

Recruitment is likely to be hungry youngsters, the cream of the Championship, promising overseas talent (as with Barry). The players are there; Brighton, Wolves, Bournemouth, Brentford all have been able to find them and sell them on to build and develop. This is the way. I hope our new analytics team know what they're doing...

Gibbs whites release clause is 60m, We've received that kinda fee once ever.

Grealish is 29 so not the wrong side of 30.

Mcatee is quoted at 25m

If we are serious about Eurooe, and yes our squad doesn't even get close to competing at present granted, maybe at some point, not necessarily this window we dangle the carrot of 'we qualify for Europe or you can leave on an agreed fee to potential signings. This may even be the only way if the Data Analytics are saying sign player xyz rather than the ones signing for say Brentford, Brighton, Sunderland,Leeds etc until we improve our rep somewhat.
